You can get away with removing the lower two bolts on the subframe and loosening the top two and pivot the entire subframe upwards... not you need to remove the seat pad, and the tank brackets them move the tank forwards to allow the subframe room to move.
what are you doing about dissipating the heat to protect the CF. Id be pleased to see how it looks after say a 1000 miles
Put some exhaust wrap round the exhaust James. It will help a bit. Wear gloves when putting it on mind. Its itchy.
That looks much better Vaio, those large heat shields are awful a real after thought if I have ever seen one.
Agree, John. Couldn't stop thinking how rubbish it looked..... here is a better pic. Really pleased with outcome, although pita to get off and back on.
Worth while fitting exhaust heat wrap if you're going to the trouble of replacing the exhaust heat shield. Make sure it's decent wrap though and not just coloured fibreglass wrap. The colour on the wrap I first used just evaporated with the heat leaving just white patchy effect that looked aweful. Replaced with Volcano wrap, done around 2,000 miles and still looks good. Takes away some of the underseat heat as well. As Conquest Carbon says, even with the heat wrap and the heat shield on the carbon you still get some discolouring. You also need to loctite the bolts and check them for the first few rides, I've lost a few so far !!!! Pitking Products Volcano Exhaust Wrap - Demon Tweeks
found it much easier to remove the heat shield by removing that small section of exhaust only 4 springs, and some gentle rubber mallet action jobs a good un
Because some crazy Yank burnt his leg in shorts apparently with the original heat shield so this was designed to stop the blame and claim culture
About 20ft of 2inch wrap from memory. It comes in 15 and 25ft lengths, you might get away with 15ft but probably best to get the 25ft length for the extra £10 or so. You also need 4 off stainless ties.
that is true anyone on here ride theirs without heat shield? how hot does it get? are asbestos trousers required?
