Possible To Retrofit The Screen From The 2014 Multistrada To The 2012?

  1. So, my first extended period at '70'mph yesterday. I tried ducking down to just below eye level with top of screen. I was amazed by how quiet and protected it was compared to normal riding position. I'm only 6' and have the screen fully up. I hear that the 2014 model screen is much better. Is it retrofitable or is there an aftermarket model that most people go for?

  2. The 2013/14 model has a 4 screw fitting for the screen. The 2010/12 models have 3.

  3. Is it possible to retrofit the screen mount, i.e. change from 3 screw to 4 screw?

  4. which 2014 screen are you referring to ?

    GT
    PP
    Std

  5. GT

  6. I am 6ft tall and have a 2014 GT, i find i have wobble head syndrome at speeds above 75 ish. Im going to a friends Pike Peak on Sunday as I have been told the smaller screen causes less head wobble. Personally I can't see it, but Im open minded and happy to try anything.

  7. Hmmph. What I'd really like is the super quiet protected area that I get if I crouch down but when I'm sat upright. I don't understand why this can't be achieved by a sufficiently large and/or well designed screen. Am I being a simpleton, as always?

  8. no idea, I haven't tried anything other than the stander screen that the bike came with.

  9. I think it is a perfectly reasonable expectation, pity it is almost impossible to achieve.

The standard 2012 screen causes turbulence at head height. The solution is to cut the screen down to put your head in high speed but clean air, similar to the Pikes Peak, or use one of the aftermarket screens out there which although better than standard are still not perfect. FWIW I use an MRA Vario which works OK.

This is a topic that regularly crops up so do a search more information.

  10. LOTS of screen discussions in the past, do a few searches ;-) ..............Aztec Screen Spacers ;-) / Deflector Wings ;-)

To change the screen mount from the 3 hole fixing to the 4 hole fixing is possible but will cost a bomb.....full headlight fairing unit will need replacing!

  11. Or you could drill a new hole, bottom centre and blank off the two unused ones with blind grommets. Might look a bit naff though.

  12. Yeah wouldn't be the best look..........and is the spacing of the upper two holes same as pre 2013?

  13. I've no idea.

  14. Get a BMW R1200RT then ;)

  15. Blerg!!!! :)

  16. The weather protection on them is superb.

And the ones with dynamic suspension currently have no wind whatsoever.

  17. My house is (fairly) windproof too and probably weighs about the same as an R1200RT

  18. If you fit an MRA X-wing to the top of the standard screen you can extend the quiet zone upward. I have collected many screens while searching for Nirvana and found that combination amongst the best. A clear one (they offer smoke and clear) won't look bad either. They come with clamps that allow you to attach them to the lip of the stock screen so it remains removable but if you want to make the installation permanent later then there is a template provided to drill mounting holes in the main screen. They are available from HPS.

(I only have a smoke X-wing so it looks a little odd on my clear stock screen)

  19. Looks good and similar to the Puig Clip-On Visor. I decided to go with the Puig and just ordered one from Amazon because the functionality looks very similar to the X-Wing but I prefer the design of the Puig. I'm hoping that it will elevate the aeroflow above the top of my helmet so that I can enjoy quiet comfortable high speed cruising without going deaf/getting my bean wobbled to jelly.

  20. I used a Wunderlich deflector on top of the standard touring screen when I was touring, big but effective at getting rid of the buffeting.

I normally ride with a short carbon Pikes peak style, no noise or buffeting, but a lot of pressure at sustained high speeds (I'm using the bike to commute most of the time so it's not an issue)

I also have a CalSci screen, totally quiet, no buffeting BUT it's BIG and close to you. If you want to try it you are welcome to pop in and give it a go sometime (I'm in Surrey). PS I will probably sell this...
