1000 1000ds Backfire With Throttle Off

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Whistler, Aug 4, 2014.

  1. Hi just picked up a 2006 1000ds with 17k and full history. Had a great ride home but whenever i closed the throttle for anything longer than a gear change there was a single backfire, other than that she ran really well.

Had new belts and a valve check at 15k back in October last year.

Any suggestions as to a possible cause would be greatly appreciated

  2. Somebody was trying to shoot you for buying such an ugly bike :(

  3. Just unburnt fuel by the sound of it, std or aftermarket cans? Decat? TPS needs resetting on them occasionally

  4. Exhaust or inlet not airtight can cause that.
TPS might be out, dealer computer jobby, 10/15minutes.

  5. standard cans, no decat. Did have 1 x exhast gasket fitted at the last service although the gasket was 'supplied by the customer'

I did consider that myself. Whilst I like it I have taken a few years to get to that point.....

  6. Run it and see if you can feel a blow from the exhaust join.

  7. Massive blow from the front join and small one from the rear! Both are the joins where one pipe is larger than the other rather than a straight joint with a flat gasket. One has a spring that a guess may be worn the other a clamp that may need tightening. Both look like Italian design!!!!

What's the best fix ? ( other than getting a better looking bike) just new spring / clamp?

  8. Sounds like it

Or does it need to seat in better?
