  1. A quick update, no pics i'm afraid.

The Good: The dash works! Woohoo! I've been plugging away at the loom for a while now and it was time to try it out, it fired up first time and i think i have all of the sensors and feeds correctly wired in as well, i have speed sensor, indicators, backlight, high beam, neutral light, ambient air temp, water temp and fuel level (working but needs calibrating) all showing on the dash. I wont be able to check they are properly working until i get it fired up (shouldn't be long now!) but it all looks promising.

The Bad: I spent most of yesterday fabricating an undertray for the alcove under the fuel tank from a sheet of Aluminium. Its probably the best thing i have made so far, it follows the tank contours and shape perfectly, gives loads of space to hide most of the loom inside as well as giving a perfect mounting location for the coil packs. Unfortunately genius here didn't think to check the clearance on the throttle bodies (they were removed while i was working) and the vertical cylinder TB clashes with my lovely new tray, meaning i have to chop a sodding great big hole in it now to give me a fighting chance of getting an air filter on it.

The Ugly: The more i try the worse the battery looks in between the cylinders, its not the battery itself but everything else, it fouls one of the coolant hoses if mounted centrally and looks bobbins if its offset. i end up with loads of wiring to cut and change and try as i might i cannot get the 916 coolant bottle to sit nicely inside the headstock (it seems the geometry of the ST frame looks the same but is just different enough to be a pain in the arse). I have decided to swap the battery and coolant bottle locations around (using an S4 Monster coolant bottle in its stock location), unfortunately it means i now cannot use the 916 Radiator and expansion bottle i sourced so i'm going to have to clean up, strip and paint my original radiator which has definately seen better days...

If the 916 bottle almost, almost fits, could you use a heat gun to reshape it enough to make it fit?

  3. It's a possibility, i'm not sure if i could get it square to the frame though, i have a spare so i will give it a go. Cheers for the idea :upyeah:

  4. Well it looks like I spoke too soon about the dash, I started to see if I could use the ducati speed sensor today and noticed that some of the warning lights were doing funny things. The high beam light would flash with the indicators and the neutral light only showed with the headlight on.
I thought I must have wired it in wrong so I checked it all and it was correct. I had a bit of a play and swapped a couple of wires over and things started to get better, then all of a sudden the dash lit up like a Christmas tree then died. Bugger.
I called Acewells technical team, they ran through a few things with me and confirmed my fear, it was screwed. There is one wire on the warning light plug which will brick the unit if you put 12v to it. Double bugger.
However they also confirmed that the unit seems to have been wired incorrectly in the factory and will replace it free of charge, horay!
So its a bit of a set back but I really cannot complain about the customer service, they were helpful, knowledgeable and very easy to deal with.

  5. Fair play to them.... Great when you deal with a company like that :upyeah:

  6. Exactly, its how all companies should be!

  7. Right, time to admit defeat. I'm really struggling with the wiring and its time to let a professional get involved, I want to have it rideable for shakedown testing by the end of the summer and at this rate i will still be scratching my head (arse) at xmas!

I have a short somewhere in the loom that pops the headlight fuse everytime i put full beam on and i haven't got a clue where to start with stripping out the bits and bobs that are not required. It's witchcraft i tell you...

  8. I feel your pain, I spent two weekends of shouting at the indicators on my SS project and after a while and a few resistors it all worked fine. You are right about it being witchcraft!!

  9. Productive day with Mark at MADASL today, the shorts in the wiring loom are all sorted. The dash works perfectly now and we sorted out a load of little niggles. I have a plan now and this little beastie should be roaring soon!

  10. Out of interest where was the short? I had a similar problem with my ST4S blowing the headlight fuse and doing funny things with the rev counter, it turned out to be a short on the tail light loom!!

  11. It was a dodgy connection I had made wiring in the full beam warning light on the dash. I removed the original warning bulb and bridged the connection, it was enough to pop the fuse. I had made the same mistake in a few other places too so they are all sorted now too.

  12. Glad to hear it's sorted. I hate eletrical problems!

  13. You're lucky you got Mark to fall back on mate. You keeping it yellow?

  14. Yeah very lucky! I would have been scratching my head until xmas otherwise...

I'm thinking of a version of the tricolore paint scheme for it, white with a red and a green stripe running the length of the bike.

  15. Good plan!
You could use the Bimota DB1 paint scheme (or colours): the white was a bit pearlescent, the stripes metallic.

  16. That looks fantastic! And quite similar to what I had in my head too

  17. Great progress - when will you have it running?

  18. Excellent project!!!!! Also after a similar seat unit anyone still supply these?

    Cheers Pablo
