I was looking at the Dainese 'in' boots, why are they so expensive? Do any of you use 'in' boots? Seems to me that Dainese are the only ones doing this type of boot. Also, just wondered are they just a gimmick, but I can see how they would be comfortable.
Expensive? Compared to my old Daytonas theyre positively frugal. I have them and theyre pretty good. They work well with their leather trousers because the trousers have the shin protection built in to them. I like them and a plus point is that when caught out in rain, the water doesnt trickle down into the boot. I think its a neater and smarter solution.
My impression has always been that the boot leather is tougher than the suit leather, so I'd prefer it to be on the outside. But if it works for all sorts of racing gods, what do I know? I'd also sooner get road shit on my boots than on my suit. Each to his own.
I think it was you that mentioned the Axial pros. They are around £350, which you have to admit isn't cheap. Ok, forget the cost, then its down to value for money. Are they comfortable?
Saddle soap removes everything. Besides 'outs' only cover the shin anyway. Theres more to snag on an 'out'. But i doubt there's anything in it.
Mine are comfy. I replaced a set of Daytona Evo's with them, which were comfy too. Comfiest ever bike boots have to be daytona roadstar gtx imo. You could dance in them.
TBH I bought a pair of Dainese 'out' boots and they actually take the shin guard ok. I honestly think I would buy a pair of in boots if they were a bit cheaper. May be its all down to the look you want.
My "outs" (er... is that the right terminology? I mean classic boots) are festooned with plastic vents and whatnot and extra protection, none of which I assume the Dainese boots give you. I'm still struggling to see the advantage of having a boot that fits under your leathers, apart from the rain thing (when I am wearing an oversuit over my boots in any case).
'Ins' are being worn at the highest level of 2 wheeled motorsport. Therefore i cannot see your concern Glid. If Vale etc will wear them, then thats good enough for me as they will do more crash testing on them than I ever will. I think they look more stylish and neater. But its all moot and subjective. If you like 'outs' then fine. I still do, but I bought Dainese to replace my Furygan and the boots compliment it. Plus when my Daytonas were destroyed by a 2mph off i wasnt too impressed with these £600 boots. The Axial Pro Ins were £350, so I pocketed the saving. Its about style Glid. Oh and you ride ducati's so dont lecture me on style over substance please.
And that's entirely fair enough. They do look quite cool, although there is also something quite cool about having boots that sort of look like ski boots (if the rest of the outfit fits...).
On another note, I contacted Daytona about this and they were dismissive. £600 boots destroyed during a 2mph off. Ridiculous. I wont buy another set of Daytonas.
I know. I will pay for my own safety and buy what I perceive to be the best I can get hold off. Plus I am a fashion victim. Or a bit of a tart really. Which is odd given that I look dishevelled in any other walk of life. I hope its fashionably dishevelled, but probably unlikely given that I am 48.
Not been in there for prob four years at least- in a past life, used to work just round the corner from them. I always used to find the chap with the small ponytail very helpful, and good to chat to. Just my experience
Agree, he's a bit of an odd one, but knows his stuff. Knows a shedload about just about everything they stock. Bought my Kriega stuff from there last month and he literally knew it inside out.
In boots are weird, you are restricted in leathers that work with them and I prefer the look of boots outside. The sock issue for a start! I can wear regular sports socks and my leathers cover those and boots are fine. These in boots must mean you need long socks like a Japanese schoolgirl to cover the top of the boot. I have those for winter boots worn under textiles (there is a site I use specialising in Japanese cast offs) but for leathers, boots outside all day - even if it rains....
