There are only two scenarios to summer riding: (a) it rains and your pride and joy is covered in cak in 200 yards (b) it stays dry and your pride and joy is covered in bugs in a few miles. What are the best solutions to getting rid of the bugs? I don't want to do the whole bucket and water thing every time I go out, but after a couple of days commuting to work, the 999 is covered in them. I have noticed that bug splat is directly proportional to average speed. If you creep about, they have time to fly out of the way (or something). As I don't, it's Gnat City on my fairing. Visor wipes? Or do they remove all the polish? Saw a thing on an American forum where they swear by the anti-static tissues you put in the tumble drier, but whatever you suggest.
Baby wipes do the job on visor, as for the bike the best stuff i have ever used was from Lidl, an active bug remover, but have not seen it in for a while, using a muc off one at the moment thats ok but a tiny bottle, so wont last long.
The thing to bear in kind that once the little buggers have dried out they are actually quite hard. Too much rubbing to get them off will eventually scrath the paintwork. Best bet is to soak them first then rub them off. I use a piece of kichen paper, hold it under the tap until it's wet then lay it on the bike, obviously flat not scrwed up. Leave it 10 minutes until bugs have softened then just wipe off with the kitchen paper. Easy.
It does indeed. And JML Doktor Power and Flash Magic Eraser are made from the exact same material (as far as I can tell) and are much, much cheaper. I've been using the JML stuff with just tap water on my Schuberth C3's visor for over 3 years and there's not a single scratch.
Did you read the original post ? Isn't he talking about cleaning bugs off his bike, not his visor ? :frown:
Correct. Getting them off a visor is child's play - just rub soap on it under a tap. Doing an entire fairing is a different saucepan of mackerel.
It was a deliberately sensationalist and ambiguous thread title to encourage a maximum of page views.
Been using Vulcanet for the last 18 months and its fantastic does what it says on the tin. Alittle expensive but really does the job you can clean to a polished finished without any water
I did. As others have said, it gets them off the bike very easily. I just put the bit about the visor there to show how doing it doesn't scratch.
First...I must say that I sell the product so i do have a vested interest... AutoSmart G101, diluted to 5:1 with tap water, applied through a spray bottle....removes bugs very quickly and remarkably cheaply. It can also be used neat for really heavy duty oil/grease soiling or diluted down to 10:1 for kitchen surfaces etc. They also sell a TFR called SmartBike which is safe on aluminium which can be diluted and pre sprayed on the whole bike, or used through a pressure washer......try Autosmart International for full range.
I'd better get involved then I always washed my bike when I got back so didn't have a problem Lazy toads :-D
I wait for rainy day .... or if monster they are only visible on headlight so do the towel thing. Visor well from Sunday still have big green guuuu on it. Can not be bothered.
Yes Luca, but you have a completely furred-up 900SS which has disappeared beneath a 3 inch coating of scuzz. So should we take your advice??
