Whilst I am very happy with my Mutli I keep lusting after a Superbike as a second bike but comfort is a big concern, especially of the knees. So the question is a simple one, which Superbike is the least uncomfortable and also which is to be absolutely avoided ?
999. 5 pos adjustable footrests. Fit higher bars maybe or swap them round has same effect. Seats really comfortable, I went to WDW2010, 1000miles in 2 days no problem, I'm 6ft/15stoner58yrs. Girlfriend ok with pillion too.
I guess it largely depends on how tall are you, how long are your legs, arms etc. I'm 6'3", 34" inseam and I find 1098 to be pretty comfy for a sportsbike... wel, after fitting Motovation weighted bar ends and Ducati Performance seat  Adjustable rearsets may also help
I was slightly worried about how I would get on with my 999, but have found it be much better than I feared. Much better than some of the others that I tried (Fireblade, R1, ZX10, S1000RR, Gixxer 750), and worth a test ride if you like them (and providing you don't go along with the "ugly" opinion
Hard saying this, but any of the Tamburini 916/996/998 superbikes are the most uncomfortable superbikes from any manufacturer imho. Proper supermodels amongst bikes - great to look at, but just hard work being with. However, even the psychological thought of riding them hard brings a smile to your face
Same here. Im about the same size and my 1098 doesnt hurt anymore than anything else Ive ridden. I will say my Stomp Grips help alot thou
There's no doubt that the KTM RC8 is the most comfortable superbike. Ask anyone who's owned/ridden one.
I've said it before but the Ducati Superbikes are perfectly comfortable so long as you get a bit of a move on, and so long as you aren't doing hundreds of miles on dead straight roads (e.g. motorway). If you do a bit of hanging off (no need to go MotoGP mad) in the bends and shuffle about in your seat for the corners, (which is the best way in any case to get them to go where you want), the seat is comfortable enough. What kills the bum is hours in the same position. I'm 5'10" and I don't find the riding position especially cramped, but once again, weighting the pegs in the bends keeps your legs and knees from going to sleep. They are not comfy in town, or for dawdling through endless built up areas at slow speed where the weight on your wrists is a real pain after a while. Otherwise they are all-day comfortable and I have done many, many long days riding one.
Yep, the 999 was a pleasant surprise for my 70 year old wrists. On my '06 I can also adjust the tank/seat unit back/forwards to suit my arm length. Pillions are a no no for us for anything other than the open road. Traffic stop/starts are a pain with the pillion loaded on you.
I'd say the 999 is most likely to have the roomiest riding position with its adjustable footrest brackets , I took mine to Nice and back from Newcastle and the most discomfort came from the heated seat (due to exhaust CATS), I'd definitely recommend a de-cated exhaust and a different seat. ps I think only the single seat versions had the adjustable seat/tank.
I'm 6'3 and find my 749 pretty good except super slow rides. Certainly better than the 848 I've been riding today whilst my bike is serviced. Massive neck ache whilst riding along at 30-40mph ( lifting head up enough to see far enough down the road)
Sounds like I need to take a closer look at the 999 then. 749man, I rode an 848 and loved it apart from that neck ache.
Not ridden the 848, so let me know what you think. I bet the 999 has more torque - which is great if you're lazy like me.
Does it need to be a Ducati? (please don't stone me!) I'm 6ft and 17 stone and found the R1 (2005 on) to be relatively roomy. I also found the new shape Fireblade to be very cramped (older ones are better). Gixxer thousands are somewhere in between. Haven't tried Kwacks or Ducatis. Have you tried this? Motorcycle Ergonomics Just add the bikes you're interested in and use the mouse wheel to scroll between them.
The 1x98 is comfortable, and the Pani yet more comfortable. No surprise really. Ie, newer the bike, the better the usability/comfort.
My 848 is horrible at slow speeds to be frank. Then again, taking the rearsets off 'maximum knee death' setting may help this, and changing the super pole seat for some gel filled item and fitting tall clip ons. That said, it'd look wank then and not be as poised for spirited riding.
