So once again most of Surrey is under virtual house arrest, due to some ill-conceived stupid cycle ride, WTF are the local authorities on when they think that shutting all the roads is a good thing, I can get out of my drive but that's about as far as I can go, already had a bollocking for chucking the road closed sign in the hedge, well when the bastards come past here they may just find the road covered in tin-tacks and drawing pins
It's the same in London, peak traffic and queues due to knock on effect of road closures etc. There is the tour of Britain next month so it's bound to happen again.
Totally agree with the 'ill-conceived' bit - I looked at length for a map to show the intended route yesterday without success. A realistic indication of what motorists could have expected to encounter today in London/Surrey is the least the planners could have done.
Map was the easy bit Chris http://www.prudentialridelondon.co....on-Surrey-100-Participants-2014-Route-Map.pdf Getting any sense out of the organisers......Now that's where it starts to get really tricky
and that's what you call easy?? slightly confused here as thought you would be agreeing particularly on looking at above (after having to download etc) as it's 100 times less useful than a Haynes manual.
I'm flicking between this and the BSB, quite enjoying the coverage. I would love to see an event like this in Bristol
I still have to say, those poor sods don't know what's in store for them as weatherwise it's starting to kick off here again (near Leith Hill) to add even more to (posted approx an hour ago) :- "just had the best ride of 2014 bar none. General road closure meant digging deep to find a route home which easily took an extra 6 miles as a result but was forced to go along many single tracks that I hadn't been up since I used to cycle*. Elefant was the perfect bike as I came across plenty of deep 'puddles' most of which had cars turning round. Went along a lot of the intended route for the 2 o'clock ride today but the carnage, the flooding, the mud, gravel and stones/rocks, the abandoned posts (I shouldn't have been allowed on route) and the many blown over/scattered 'Road Closed' signs told me that it just ain't going to happen. The one time I really wish I had had a Go-Pro up and running." I am now glued to TV as just like a good thriller I can't wait to see how it all unfolds.. :Wideyed:
If it were a plague of rats the council would do something about it, apparently a plague of Lycra clad fuck-wits is perfectly OK, Oh and the local council told me I shouldn't call them Fuck-wits
So once again most of IoM is under virtual house arrest, due to some ill-conceived stupid motorcycle ride, WTF are the local authorities on when they think that shutting all the roads is a good thing, I can get out of my drive but that's about as far as I can go, already had a bollocking for chucking the road closed sign in the hedge, well when the bastards come past here they may just find the road covered in tin-tacks and drawing pins. Does that make it sound better ?
Not a bit, the IoM has been going for years its a universally recognised event, well organised and applauded by IoM residents, the bicycle ride has been foisted upon us with no consultation and zero consideration for the disruption it causes, there are plenty of velodromes they could use, or if they insist it has to be a road event they could use the inside lane of the M25, just keep these tosser's out of the towns and villages
We are in a fragile glass house condemning someone for their hobby/passion just because it isn't one we share and maybe it inconveniences us on a couple of days a year. There are plenty who could take issue with social motorbiking and the challenges we present with accidents, speeding, noise, taking over places like Box Hill etc. The cyclists seemed to be enjoying themselves and we need to live and let live.
The IoM was a new-fangled evnt at one stage... Wot Count said. Besides for one day in the year? I bet you've had way more delays caused by motor vehicles causing road closures over the year. anything that teaches the great unwashed that roads are't just for cars. Now, about that M25 time trial...
Morning 'berto! I feel your pain. On Saturday, I had to travel on public transport, together with the Great Unwashed (apparently, the term 'commoners' is frowned upon now). Go and kick the cat - you'll feel happier
It would be a lucky drive if the inside lane on M25 moved, the cyclists would be better using the cars as an obstacle race!! I sat on the inside lane the other week for 30 mins!!!! Just to get to the next junction !!!
