Hey guys, So I think I buggered out buying an exhaust for my 1098/the guy misadvertised the listing. I got termignoni slip ons plus the ecu and filter, that were previously fitted on the guys 1198, but he said everything would fit a 1098 too. I have recently Read threads that say the ecu will only work on an 1198 even if its reset, is that true? Also if i were to fit everything to test it, should I avoid riding it until the ecu has been reflashed? I heard some people haven't bothered and their bikes run fine?! Thanks
I was under the impression that the 1198 stuff would work on the 1098. @chrisw (if that tag works) is the man to speak to about ECUs. He is a clever chap when it comes to stuff like that. Helped me loads recently. I've just put the same thing on my 1098, termi slash cuts, ECU and filter. When I took it to the shop to get the TPS reset (recommended after changing cans) the mechanic said the new (to me) ECU was programmed in 2011 pointing towards it being made for a 1198. That was just a guess tho. All seems to be ok on the first 100 miles or so. Apart from Relay problems. Hopefully the two aren't connected...... That's got me thinking now! Hope you get it sorted. Ben
Thanks Ben, once again Chris W coming to the rescue, very knowledgable chap Well I've already had the relay issue with standard cans so won't be anything new lol (my injector relay was filthy!) Just in the midst of trying to figure out which ecu it actually is, definitely the termignoni 'race' ecu so happy that I didn't get ripped off there. I really want to hear what it sounds like!!! Would it be detrimental if i turned it over with just the cans on without filter or ecu briefly? Or is patience a virtue here
You can run the cans with the stock ECU. It will run lean but you will be able to hear your Termis for the first time. Update - the ECU supplied with these cans was from an 1198 (DP Slip Ons) ref 96520109B, in a box for 1098R (70mm full system) ref 96519608B. Not suitable for a 1098.
Yep I'm running my arrows on a standard map and it's running lean; it's making the exhausts hot!! Also the bike is really lumpy to ride!! I'm getting it remapped and I think it's needed but the bike runs 'okay'.
Chris, How can you tell what the ECU came from? I'd be interested as the guy who hooked mine up to the diagnostics thought it may be from an 1198? I was told it came from a 1098, although not sure if it was 1098 or 1098s assuming they are compatible. Sod patience, Get the Termis on with the stock ECU and Filter and fire it up. The sound will put a smile on your face and help you get over the troubles your having ECU wise. And that will be just on tick over! Ben
The numbers on the labels plus electronic data via JPDiag help me identify the bike/system the ECU is for. For quite a while I have been working with JP to create a database of all the ECU data. It was accessible via the JPDiag website but at the moment it is down because the host has pulled the plug on JP. If you PM me the info off the labels on the ECU I'll try and help.
guys just had the same problem buying Termi cans from a 1198 for my 1098 - if you know anyone wants some cash for their 1098 Termi cans give me a shout, cheers.
Hey don't worry about it, the cans are the same, all you need to do is reflash the ecu, contact chrisw to get this done, mine runs sweet as a button now, just annoyed that I got mugged off!
Call me stupid but can't you just get the cans and flash your existing ecu... jobs a good Un. Didn't have the ecu with mine for a month until I got hold of one (£33 lucky ebay bid) had no problem until then though
Last month I sold my 1098 Termis and Race ECU to a guy with an 1198 - he's therefore hoping to do a trade. If interested drop me a message and I can put you in touch.
My 1098s is running Acropovic cans and it's had its standard ECU flashed and run up on the DYNO, runs spot on, setting the bike up on the dyno is the only way to get it all right and propper
