Curious... 600 Miles In One Day?

  1. I'm wondering if you could ride 600 miles in one day? 100% Motorways, no twisties, just a straight run.

This is from Le Havre to Marseilles in France.

I was thinking about doing it over 2 days, but I will be leaving at around 6am in the morning on the Saturday and I'm thinking, is it possible to just get 600 miles done in one go? It's on a Multistrada 1200S.

I reckon if I realistically left at 7am, with fuel stops and lunch, I would arrive around 6pm in the afternoon. Averaging around 80mph.

Thoughts? I've got music to keep me entertained at least lol.

  2. nope i couldn't
    country roads yip..

  3. 600 miles on a MTS? Piece of cake.

I've done 600 miles in a day, no motorways.

    Depends on your fitness really...

  4. 26 years old, ex smoker, drink too much beer... My fitness is mediocre lol.

Well, either 600 miles or when I arrive on Friday at 1830, I could ride for an hour and knock off some miles and setup camp a little closer to Marseilles.

  5. if your gonna do it over a couple of days take the scenic rout
regularly do 450-500 miles runs on a and b roads.

  6. As per Spareparts, that all depends on whether *you* can handle it.

The old man used to ride down from Reading to the German-Swiss border in one hit regularly, on anything from a Pan Euro to a ZXR750.

  7. I rode back in one hit from WDW a couple of weeks ago, 940 miles on my 20 year old Cagiva Elefant. So 600 on a Multi will be a doddle, I've ridden one! I used to always ride back from the Bol at Paul Ricard in one hit, on various bikes including a Pantah and a 750 F1, but I was younger then!

  8. Yep. Easy. Rode from Colmer in France to Calais and then to North London in one day. Which admittedly is around 500miles @nuttynick did the Italy to Folkstone run in one day, but he's ex forces ;)

  9. When I say fitness, I'm talking 'bike fitness'. Mental stamina, core strength...

I have more grey than colour, am 20kg heavier than I should be, and gave up running 25 years ago. But put me on a bike and many 20somethings struggle to keep up and for as long! If only the ladies knew... :)

  12. Haha, cheers guys :D Looks like I'm underestimating the Multi and my self (I hope) then. I've averaged in around 300 miles a day each day (with 2 break days). I just wanted to clear off France in one go. So I'm happy I can do that as it means I can spend the Sunday chilling in and around Marseilles.

  13. The key is to be realistic. I was on the 1098 so I was having to stop every 90mins for fuel. Drink lots of fluids, I highly recommend the peach Ice Tea by the way

  14. 360 miles in 5.5 hours from Colchester to Perranporth was bad enough, but nothing compared to Colchester to Lake Como in 15 hours......750 miles IIRC.......

.....or Ipswich to Bradford and back via the M25 (Surrey) 550 miles in 9 hours, I think it was........on a ZXR750.........that was bl**dy painful.

  15. Hahahaha, going from Colchester to Perranporth will be slightly different than 350 across the Alps in Switzerland :p

I imagine I will report back in a month moaning at how much of a wimp I was as the Multi just ate miles up!

  16. did 4 x 400 mile days in a row just the other week on the 899, was a bit achy by day 4, but no major issues
most was 638 miles in one hit from nice to reims on my old zzr1400

    you will be fine

  19. Take the scenic route and do it in 2 days, is my advice. A Multi will do it without missing a beat, but the question is can you? Its mentally very hard to do, I did 550 miles in 1 day at WDW 2014 but I was driving a van in different conditions. Felt like 4 seasons in 1 day. Yes all motorway. My rule has been to ride about 250 miles max and then find somewhere to rest. If your on holiday why do it in 1 day?...

  20. Ah, the reason for heading to Marseilles is because I'm following this route:

    Motorbike Ride : ALPEN MASTER

I've adapted and changed it slightly, but it gives a good idea of the Alp route I wish to take. I've plotted it into my Garmin Zumo 660. I will then rest up for a day in Zell Am See in Austria and do a route back accross to Southern Germany and do the Black forest.

Those 3 routes (Alps, Austria and Black Forest) are the only routes I have 'planned'. The rest is left unplanned so the wind can take me. Only other thing I have planned in is a hostel booking in Amsterdam on the Thursday and Friday night of the second week. Mainly because some hostels were already fully booked 2 weeks ago and I don't fancy getting a shit hole to stay in so picked a decent hostel that I know of and stayed at before.

So yea, I originally toyed with the idea of doing 2 days down to Barcelona along the west coast of France down to the Spanish border and then across norther Spain to Barcelona. Then a stint up to the start of the Alps route. But this would push me to for time later in the second week after doing the Alps route.

After the Black forest, I'd like to hit up the Nurbergring after setting up camp early afternoon (camping most of the trip). From there, I don't know... If it's late in the second week, to Amsterdam, if it's early, to Brussels!

    Who knows!
