Just thought I would share this for anyone looking at changing theirs as these don't seem to be listed as an MTS option on the Ducati site. The dealer system confirms model compatibility. I always found the standard fitted rear indicators disproportional to the rest of the bike..Huuuge! Not having a dislike to the standard tail my intention was to replace just the indicators with the EU Panni rears that are smaller, a straight fit and LED. Also the added bonus of less bulbs to carry for touring. So during my service visit to Snells on Monday I mentioned my plan to get a set on order. I was then shown a set of DP type approved indicators that are LED and also a direct fit (PN 96680201A). There are apparently two types of these , one with screw fittings for the DP tail tidy, and the other with the rubber mount to attach to the OE tail unit. So for £10 more (£60) these are better constructed with metal casing, and in my opinion look better than the Panni set. They fit straight on, though the supplied cable length is longer so you have to be careful with routing and that you don't pinch anything when re-assembling the tail. Whilst you have the tail apart I would suggest changing the C5W number plate bulb as a matter of course, as the clear plastic lens will break when trying to replace it externally.
Are these offered as a replacement for the MTS or are they meant for some other model? I've already fitted Pani ones at £55 the pair which I'm quite happy with them but these appear to be longer and slimmer with an extra LED in each.
Looks like theyre the OE items for the Hyperstrada... Ducati Hyperstrada LED Turn Signal Kit 96680201A
They do fit a number of bikes, though nothing external seems to imply that. Nick at Snells checked the compatibility list on his system to confirm the MTS was listed. Think the lack of visibility is possibly why these are not on the radar for many. Being a DP part means you get a 2 year warranty also
Hope this helps....Shorter and visibility with pannier is excellent. White bit is where I had the OE ones shimmed with a bit of plastic to stop the wobble. The LEDs are a good snug fit.
Cool Thanks for taking the time to do the pics I like that mod, think im going to do the same! Cheers Psy69
No problem. I did notice the stem base circumference is slightly smaller by a few mm than the OE, but its such a snug fit to the tail they don't move.
Like Andy, I also fitted the Panigale LED rear indicators a while back. I think I prefer them as they are just a smaller version of the original. Anyway it nice to have a choice, especially if it's cheaper. Definitely agree with changing the number plate illumination bulb for an LED equivalent at the same time as changing the indicators - in fact it's probably the easiest way to change the bulb even if you're not changing the indicators
Yes that bulb is a sucker to change, much better with an LED type bulb, it handles the vibration much better!
The standard bulb is a C5W 12V - 5W "Festoon" type fitting, 38 mm in length. There are now loads of LED replacements available, and they are a lot cheaper than the one I brought nearly 3 years ago; Philips X-treme Vision Festoon LED C5W 400K 38mm from www.powerbulbs.com (now £12.95 inc. free delivery). If you're going to attempt to replace the bulb via the transparent plastic cover , then buy a spare cover before attempting to change the bulb - as you will break it :-( The part number is 24713331A and they cost about £3.25. Also set aside plenty of time as it's not the 5 minute job it should be - incredibly fiddly. I'm sure it would be faster and less stressful to remove the rear mudguard assemble and install the bulb from the "inside".
anyone tried these? Would they work? Pencil Style Black LED Indicators For Ducati Hypermotard / Multistrada Models | eBay
Never tried them but they should work. I tried a homemade LED array from a previous set up to confirm LED indicators would work without ballast resistors - they do, yet strangely if there is no indicator connected at the rear (like a blown bulb) then the front ones flash too fast. Any LED indicators should work fine on the rear.
Hi Psy69 I know this is an old thread but I am having a mare trying to fit aftermarket LED indicators to my 2014 Multi - they work sometimes but not always and no idea why. I have tried with and without resistors but the same result. The original bulbs according to the OM wiring diagram are 10w but when I bought the bike it had a R&G tail tidy with small 10w bulb indicators which were crap - hence the change. Did your bike originally have 10w bulb indicators and if so, what did you do to fit the LED ones? Did you need to fit resistors? Also, if you still have the bike, can you tell me what the LED ones are and if they fix with a single thread - mine is an M8. Thanks
