Sorry lads.. You are all wasting your money... Heat on the master cylinder is not your issue,,,:Inpain: EDIT Sorry...too blunt.....had just returned from pub after way too many Guinness.:Muted:
...a possibility for sure but on the other hand there are a LOT of guys that swear by the heat shield. But proper bleeding is essential regardless (caliper off and turned so the bleed nipple is uppermost), AirCons ABS unit bleed nipple mod is also essential imho plus use of the best quality/high spec brake fluid and change the pads to for example EBC HH helps. All of this will at least result in an acceptable if still not great rear brake. I 'imported' a batch of the brake shields, from the guy in the US that makes them, to reduce the cost to UK MTS owners.....sorry, none left, they all sold long back. For anyone still keen to get hold of one email Erik....draysone AT hotmail DOT com
Heat shield fitted and rear brake bled twice by Ducati dealer. Brake works for about a week each time then goes on holiday. SO FED UP with crap design.
ABS Mod, standard master and slave (calliper), HH brake pads (or whatever Mike decided to fit last time). Gentle pressure on the back brake peddle can make ABS kick in with hot tyres and a very grippy road any time it wants. Not the best rear brake I've had...but acceptable and HOW IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN WHEN IT LEFT THE FACTORY!!:Rage:
The ABS modification transformed the rear brake, thus allowing a proper bleed of the air from the system. I did all the other things (except pads) first.
Hmmm....mine improved (caliper bleed, your ABS bleed mod....and HH pads) and probably the best it ever was but still not a patch on other bikes I've had.
The ABS mod improved mine by about 40% and it's the same with a cold or hot motor, ruling out the heat shield. While at the dealers yesterday, I tested the rear brake pedals of the Multistradas, Pannigales and Monsters. Interestingly, the Mutly's were spongy while the others were hard. Has anyone else experienced this? and wondering if replacing the master with one from a Monster would improve it further.
Oddly my rear is as good as any of my other bikes. I can lock it quite easily. So if anything, the issue is inconsistent across the production. Mine is a 2013.
As an after thought contacted Erik aka ebrew in the US who came up with the concept/design originally. He still has a couple!... will PM you with his email address ;-)
Totally average John ....all good with you I hope. Waiting on @Kirky to organise one of his excellent rideout's so I can catch up with some of you guys ;-)
