1199 New 1199s On The Way :)

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Monners, Aug 15, 2014.

  1. After a few frustrating problems with my 2012 I decided I didn't want to be dealing with a Panigale without a warranty on it. So I've just ordered a shiny new one from Snell Performance which I pick up in a couple of weeks once the new registration year comes in :)

I'll have four (work) days to get 600 run in miles onto it before getting it serviced and then we're off on a 3000 mile trip to Italy!

  2. Awesome! That will be lovely, red I assume?

  3. Oh, and are there any deals being offered at the mo on them?

  4. Yes red. I do like the black stealth colour but it still feels like my 'first' Ducati so needs to be red :)

No special deals I'm aware of other than possibly the finance has a lower interest rate on the 1199s? I part exchanged my current 1199s so my main thing was to pay off what I still owed on that. I was considering other options to be honest but still nothing quite excites me like the Ducatis and it was a nice smooth process with Snell.

  5. What was the issue with your 2012 pani? Could you not extend the warranty on it?

  6. I bought it in may and have loved it but had issues and figured I'd be better off with a warranty as I've got quite a lot planned including a trip to Italy next month.

When in the Isle of Man I had the bolts inside the clutch cover rattle loose and smashed up the clutch basket and attached parts. That cost me £2000. Ducati insist the previous owner must have changed the clutch cover and not put thread lock on the bolts inside the cover. The bike was just out of warranty but still they wouldn't have helped anyhow as they say it's not a factory issue. I could fight it more but my position is not all that strong after buying second hand so I can't prove what has been done or not done to the bike.

I then had a coil pack die on the second lap at Silverstone, after riding from London there with no problems. Ducati replaced this for free at the track so that was at least a nice gesture that improved my feelings of them.

I've now got some electrical issues which are probably minor but I just dont want to have to lose the bike for any length of time again. It's frustrating that you have to go via a dealer computer to diagnose things properly without going through the electrical harness by hand. Chances are that once it's sorted then it'll be fine but it's annoying me now.

I've decided I'd be better off running a Panigale with a warranty to cover any issues through the dealer and a cheaper track/road bike that I have full control over and work on myself.

  7. I extended my warranty not long after I bought my bike. In checking the conditions of the extended warranty and what is described in the application as an "eligible vehicle" there existed discrepancies in the timeframes listed.

The Extended warranty paperwork described a bike that was first owned and less than 24 months old whilst the application form itself stipulated that an eligible bike was a bike not only less than 24 months old but one that had been first owned and registered by a ducati dealership less than 6 months previous to the date of the application.

My dealer said that the extended warranty option was open for the first 23 months of first time ownership however this isn't compatible with the ducati paperwork.

If the extended warranty is important to you then it might perhaps be worthwhile checking this at the outset. The extended warranty is an absolutely discretionary scheme in any event and so it may be worth taking out for your own comfort in any event. KTM by way of comparison withdrew its extended warranty scheme without notice not that long ago.

Congratulations and good luck with the bike.
