As requested, here comes few more photos of my "Korppi" and brief list of the things done so far. Enjoy or dislike, which ever you prefer... Lets start with the mod list: -Matt black paint -Modded side panels -Motech crash bars -Oxford heated grips -K&N air filter -Bazzaz fuel controller with the map change switch -Laser silencer (gone trough Termignoni (short), Mivv, Yoshimura and Leo Vince before this ... not satisfied with the sound) -Modded original wind screen / black paint with stripes -Touring model wind screen is at the garage for LONG trips -Lowered the seats, both front and rear -Garmin GPS mount & device Hmm... what else? Of course plenty of little things here and there. Well maybe you can ask if there is something you would like to know more? Then few pictures to brighten up the message: Then last, someone asked how I made the mods to the side panels. Well, first few beers in sauna to lift the spirits and get the courage, then to work. Equipments used can be seen from the photo below, except the drill of course. Thank god the end result was like I imagined it in the first place... We'll see what happens next winter then. I am not quite satisfied with the quality of the paint job on the bike. OK, it is definitely NOT a show bike so every day use will result is scrapes and scratches here and there. But still, might and up doing the paint job again properly in some other paint studio... Remains to be seen. The other option is to buy my own gear and have some fun with colors during the winter. By the way, is anybody else here running the bike with decat / Bazzaz fuel controller? My system has no "self adjusting" module yet, so the mapping is some what "close enough" at the moment. I am thinking of getting the Bazzaz module in the winter, but then again if someone has a good map here... could it be shared? From what I know, the fuels in UK and here in Finland are the same. So if any good maps are out there, they should be OK here too?
Thanks for sharing Korppi, I have to say I really do like the look I guess the Laser can is on the MIVV decat pipe? When you get the chance a closer look at the modded side panel would be good ;-)
Yep, the Laser can is indeed on the MIVV decat. As I mentioned, it took some painstaking tests to finally find a can that produces lower tones... But eventually I got there. I think that at the end it was simply the case of volume. All the cans I tested before just didn't have the volume to deal with the raw exhaust notes... Laser is a bit "big" maybe, but if that was the feature which brought the desired sounds... so be it OK, you want more closer look at the panels? I'll take some closer photos for you... Just bought new oil / filter, so I have a good excuse for a garage visit tonight! ... some time later... Here you go mate, closer look at the side panel. The left side panel was just cut & attach the black grid. But on the right side, there is a space in the air intake duct which needs to remain closed also after the mod (just my opinion). So on the right side, since drilling those holes penetrated this compartment, I needed to close it again under the grid. I did it by cutting a suitable piece out of 3mm rubber plate and installing it behind the black metal grid, seals the compartment OK. By the way, could somebody explain the function of this compartment in the middle of the air intake duct? Sorry again about the picture quality, I had to fiddle with the editing software to get the holes even this visible. In real life they seem somehow "sink" to the blackness of the bike around. Really hard to get a good picture of them...
Styling/individuality.....no function.....the Italians will approve, form over function! ;-) Thanks for that Korppi......nice work ............time for a Rad Guard! ;-) ....sorry, don't know.....a guess.....to act as a baffle to slow airflow/reduce pressure when the bike is moving at speed? (you can tell I'm no techy!)
AndyW seems to get the point... Point being, there really IS NO POINT in those. Made them just for fun to bring a bit of "Mad Max" style to the looks. To my eyes, Multi just isn't very beautiful bike to begin with. And having owned a BMW K1200R before, I new that the only thing you can really do to make these sort of bikes look better, is to make them more ugly. So ugly that it begins to look cool again... AndyW your theory of that air duct space sure sounds good. So let's go with that...
I know I'll get shot down in flames, and I KNOW its all about personal taste.....but to ME.....its like rolling a turd in glitter.....I just think, and again, its ONLY my opinion, that the Multistrada is one pig ugly bike........sorry guys.......
Yep, you are not far from the truth man! But still the fact remains, that even these ugly bikes do have that "something" in them. And by carefully modifying that "IT", you get fine results. But go and try to make them beautiful, it just isn't happening. It's like trying to put a makeup on a hippo... you end up with something really, well... WRONG!
Then there is DEFINITELY SOMETHING WRONG with me also... nothing new there! Tomorrow my hippo with heavy make up gives me pleasure all day long... Ahead is some 550km ride up north and from then on > around the beautiful Finland for a week.
Whilst in Finland you can call in on my friend Aki Rihu, in Helsinki ! He has some proper Ducatis ! Lol.....
I always work on the premise that it doesn't matter that the MTS is fugly, because you can't see it from the rider's seat. Everything that matters from that position is just fine
And I always work on the premise that really don't give rats ass about other people's opinions on things. Opinions are like assholes, everyone has got one... and that's all there is to say about it. That being said, my opinion is that MTS is as proper Ducati as everything else. After all, they are just THINGS, nothing else... Man made objects. If some day, good looks of these objects or showboating around a block with them gives me something that I feel I need ... for example superior sense of self compared to others "less fortunate". Maybe then I'll consider these traditional (or should I use the word "proper") models of the brand. OR if I simply have the money to collect the models just for fun... that might work also. But until that, I keep my hippo... knowing full well that it sure is not the prettiest around, but in Ducati range it happens to be the only model suitable for me. Riding every day no matter the weather, surface and the length of the voyage. Own a car too, but it stays at the garage until winter hits hard and the roads are covered with ice. Sure the MTS could easily cope with that too, but the studded tires and all... maybe too complicated...
Personal taste it is, maybe its not a bike that makes you drool like some others in the Ducati range, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Your 999 that your selling is not bad, I like the 999s, but you have done 1500 miles in two years, I have done that in two days on the Multi. I think the fact that Korppi has changed things, the same way you have changed things, to the original bike has to be applauded, whether you think its a hippo or not. Individuality, a great thing, the same as constructive criticism!!
Exactly, and as I said in my original post, its just an opinion......and so TOTALLY irrelevant to the owner.....
On second look, not so sure? Mine is keyless - the filler flap opens back towards the rider, like yours, but the "key flap" on mine opens towards the dash. Yours appears to open back towards the rider?
