Coming up to 2 years ownership and thinking about a change, 3 bikes I'm considering... BMW S1000R Diavel Carbon KTM Superduke 1290 R Which (if any) would you choose and why?
Saw the first 1290 in the wild today in the orange/white scheme and it looked ace. Sounded even better, and it is clear it has huge amounts of torque off the throttle. Pulled up alongside the rider, and he pulls away slowly then just power wheelies with the softest of throttles. Not an aggressive bike, and he commented on how fluid it behaved.
I'm in the same boat n looking at a Diavel Dark with black ceramic pipe work but everytime I go out on the Multi, I think why get rid of it!
That's true. My 2012 MTS is reaching the point where changing it becomes the sensible choice. It's done almost 25,000 miles and the extended warranty runs out early next year. I tried the skyhook version. I saw no benefit whatsoever to the fancy suspension - in fact I reckon the Ohlins on mine is better - and the whole thing reminded me how appalling the wind protection on the stock MTS is. I also didn't think the twin-spark head was any smoother at low revs than my bike. So, what to do? I don't want to keep mine until the expensive bits start to fail and I don't see the point in "upgrading" to the 2014 MTS. I've been working my way through a range of options, testing them one at a time. The tourers are all too fat and heavy; the GS is simply too ugly and common and most of the sports tourers are too uncomfortable. Leader in the clubhouse is a K1300s. It is warp-speed quick, beautifully built and at the end of its life-cycle, so should be pretty reliable...
It's a great ride but no way would I want to be seen in public on one - and I don't have a fringed leather jacket anyway! Next stop, Victory Hammer...
I agree with that. Old RT is a bike that's easy to respect but not so easy to love - it never made me grin. I was tempted to try the WC version, until they all stopped working...
The K1300S Anniversary edition is especially attractive with the Akrapo exhaust, plus all the bells and whistles! But what about the S1000 F (or XR) or whatever it's going to be called? BMW's version of the MTS. Could be great and due in a couple of months!
