Visited MR this am before I leave UK. She taking shape now. Was taken through the build to date, and I am stunned and amazed and the work and the "extra mile" bits Steve and his team have done. Looks like the bike might be featured in an article somewhere and when - which should be done so the amazing work MR have done can be show cased. Couple of pics showing front end - 6mm thick discs, quick release front wheel and calipers.
Hope you can ride it after all this, best part about Kopes is he is usng it in anger in the fast group and trying to work up to race. Hope this doesnt end up potterimg around in novice
Been researching about magnesium and found this - very insightful and has given me a helpful knowledge base. Clearly one of the reasons why handling reports of the SL are coming back so well - I know the race teams have had issues with the handling of their bikes being too stiff/rigid and have attributed this to the alu airbox/frame holder at the front - so with SL version being made of magnesium no doubt helps give a bit of flex and feel. Magnesium is the lightest structural metal currently available in theworld
I wonder what the price and availability will be if one wants to mount that Mg front subframe onto an 'R??
For that money you could buy a CDT carbon one and a rear CDT carbon subframe plus more besides. The weight saving would be on a par if not more than a magnesium front subframe alone.
Wow, 3500 bucks! CDT makes a carbon version? Do you have a link to that part? I wonder how compliant the carbon piece is compared to the standard Al and the Mg Superleggera piece...
