1200 Bmw Competition For Multi 2015?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Toecutter, Aug 20, 2014.

  1. Blandola but potent IL4 engine, same chain drive as MTS, but the possibility of BM's downscaling of build quality to Ducati standards (see snapped cam chains, duff clutches etc on UKGSer).

Not for me (had 8 IL4's in a row from '92 to '05), but I can see the MTS losing some sales to it?

  2. With the top box fitted, it looks like an even smaller space for a pillion than the Multi - and that ain't big by any scale. Small screen so little or no protection there and I do not like the size of the modern exhausts. It's not for me. Andy

  3. Looks like a Yammy Fazer to me

  5. Certainly peaked my interest. Wont be keeping the Multi beyond its three year warranty as its had too many warranty claims for comfort. So definitely up for something in 2016. Perhaps a new refreshed multi,,who knows. I don't tend to buy into new models and wait for the second incarnation.
Just wish manufacturers would stand by their own products and offer more than two years warranty as standard. I see Victory do a five year, and I am sure they don't operate at a loss.

  6. It doesn't do that much for me, but then I'm not a BMW fan, however, I would like to see it up close and in the flesh, before giving my final verdict.
I absolutely agree with the comments regarding warranty support and longevity. If car manufacturers can achieve it frequently for 5-7 years, then why can't so called high-end bike marques follow suit?:Depressed:

  7. I would be very tempted - I have had 4 BMW's and have been very happy with quality and dealer support. However, I have to agree with the first comment - it does look rather bland with it's disguise on.
Be interested to see final release and back to back comparison of suspension with MTS

  8. No doubting which bike BMW have copied for that. :)

  9. I think this has potential to be a corker, and am glad it looks more compact than a MTS too. I am 1st in line at my local Motorrad dealer and am looking forward to seeing it at EICMA with a bit of colour.

  10. Yeah - a 2002 V-Strom...

  11. Ugly as sin!

  12. The MTS is hardly a thing of beauty, however, its a great bike. If it were shaft drive it would be a fantastic bike, IMO

  13. That radiator is looking quite exposed. Exhaust looks too big and ugly too. Don't think it will win any fans by looks alone. Will try one as I liked the engine in their sports bike; just too cramped as an everyday bike for me so bought a Mutley.

  14. Agree about the radiator and exhaust but putting on aftermarket parts for both of these components has now become an almost compulsory rather than optional expense on most bikes nowadays. Still, I'll be in the market for a replacement next year so it'll be good to have this as another option to try out.

  15. It looks to be aimed squarely at the Multistrada market and I think the competition should be a good thing.
I expect I'll be taking one out for a spanking, I mean test ride, next spring, I never had a problem with IL4 but I will not have ridden IL4 for 2 1/2 years by then, so I'll see how it goes.

I will be bearing in my mind my friends experience (bad) with the S1000R at Bahrnstormers, he ordered with a promised delivery date in Spring but they change this late in the day to Autumn. He cancelled with refund but left disappointed with no new bike.

  16. This is exactly what Ducati need to ensure they keep track with the MTS and improve and update the current bike. The BMW won't take as many MTS sales if Ducati refresh the bike and keep one step ahead. If that spy shot had another one of an 1199 engine MTS with a Panigale like LED lit front end, colour clocks with GPS etc then I know which I'd be putting a deposit on.

  17. Yep, agree with you Count.
If they fix the issues current owners have been commenting on for ages, and add a few more of the fancier features to keep it bang up to date, I doubt many owners would defect to the beemer.

  18. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder ;)
Ducati don't have to do loads to the current MTS ( I owen a 2014 pp)
just a few bits of attention to detail and fix the shit rear break,
mine I bought the full termi which comes with a silver can hanger, the pp ones are black,
led driving and running lights are great, main beam are shit, why ? hid cheap as chips,
the led rear indicators of the painagle fit straight on, but are not standard again why ??,
there's probably a few other bits I can't think off right now but FFS get it sorted.
