Excellent day of riding today, though Pete's Multi did take a tumble whilst off-roading (thankfully little damage) and we did get bleedin' soaked. Here we are waiting for the ferry across the Rhine And here we are lost ... Off-roading on a D16 anyone? (Pete's tumbled Multi out of shot).
Trip successfully completed. I got home 7.30pm, a bit damp. Those who wanted to lapped the Nurburgring on Sunday. We all got to see plenty of lovely rivers, forests, castles, and villages, and experience loads of twisties of every size. Sampled the Ardennes, the Eifel, the Hunsruck, the Taunus, and the Westerwald. It stayed dry for the curvy roads, but poured torrents for the motorway sections. I made one or two slight navigational errors, but not when it mattered. Probably some pics will get posted tomorrow, but too tired right now.
@andyb just for you Made a change not to do a Germany trip where its balls out all the time, and driest I've known
I got home at 11:00pm completely dry ... but that was because I'd spent the last three hours in my van with the heater on full. It rained all the way from Bastogne to Guildford ... lashing it down mostly. On the Chunnel on the way back I had to take off my socks and wring them out! The final hour and a half ride from Folkestone to Wayne's place at Haslemere was the worst - biblical weather, bloody cold, English drivers, M25 traffic including an incident, you get the picture - it almost stopped being fun
Absolutely awesome trip! Thanks guys....I'd like to say more but have now gotta go to work. I ache all over and my ass feels like I had all the sausage in Germany! Here's a quick pic of Dave getting excited at the Nurburgring after a lap!
Caution to the wind a little on the way home, got back just after 2000, them PR4s are epic Glad I changed my visor on the chunnel...
Yep - that's my Nordschleife cheery popped The circuit was closed for much of the day but Wayne, Paul and I finally managed a lap at 6pm ish. A couple of big crashes which we picked our way through meant that we had the track all to ourselves for 90% of the time. If we hadn't had to slow down for them I'm certain that a lap record could have been on the cards ;-)
As it turned out, with the F1 GP on at Spa over the weekend, the traffic flow had been temporarily altered and the Masta Straight had become a one-way road in the opposite direction. So we were diverted onto an obscure back road into Malmedy.
As expected the Hotel Noss was very comfortable, friendly and welcoming, just as I remembered it. Central location. Good rooms with views over the River Mosel. Excellent breakfasts. Spacious secure private garage, and we were given the key. Frau Noss even offered the loan of her own Smart car if it would help one of us out.
I still can't believe we may have seen Patrick Swayze, but thanks to Bradders' reluctance we'll never know for sure??!
