Already done an HPI and all clear, although I did expect it to be as it will only show the history since registration - Will contact a dealer tomorrow with the chassis number and see what they can tell me. No stamps in the book but Servicing it is something I am quite happy doing providing she is right!
It was worth asking - someone still might yet - it should have had a first service stamp though at least. The issue is true age Vs value for you though surely. If it's say a 2007 bike, used for development of anything, then registered years later, then it's not worth 2014 money but nearer 2007 money. Not been cynical here, just trying to help by the way
Doing some homework with the chassis it looks to be 2010 using some of the online guidelines - not the end of the world, and not badly priced compared to 10 plate bikes!
It could end up being a great buy so let's not get too cynical, there are however a boat load of questions I'd want to know especially as it's had the type of work done it's had. For instance the company who purchased it must have used it for testing on track, I think we all can agree on that as the parts fitted definitely steer towards track orientation. However what I'd like to know is who the company is and which parts they were testing specifically, that way you'll probably get a better idea on what other parts are likely to have suffered excessive wear or stress. It's actually really interesting this, I'm glad you bought it
Don't get me wrong....it could be great....I'm just a bit more cautious maybe. Id be surprised if its been used for development with all those trick parts on. If I were, for example a maker of slipper clutches, Id want a standard bike with my clutch in it to test the clutch. The more bits you bung on it, the harder it is to evaluate an individual part. Always assuming that the parts were on there in one go, maybe they were put on by the owner or that they were used to demonstrate fitment/look of parts....a show bike if you will for someone who sells bits.
So I bit the bullet and she is at home with me now! I went out for a good ride to Oulton Park and back and she was brilliant, if not a bit brutal - I thought the 848 was meant to be a bit more civilised? I am convinced the has some aggressive cams, I stalled a couple of times and she seems rougher then the 749 in low revs, roll it on though and she sings! Lots of travel in the brake lever too before anything happens - maybe just needs some new fluid or pads? Unfortunately there was no PDI stamp in the service booklet - I was relying on this to help with the mystery! Ducati Manchester haven't been able to tell me anything, and there seems to be no direct number for Ducati UK?? Anyways, a few pics! (Ignore all the sleepers - Digging up the front garden )
course the other side is id rather have a bike thats been ridden on the track, than a 10 year old 749R with 2000 miles on it and square tyres....
Wind the span adjuster out, that will give loads of bite and less feel wheels - I don't think you can use in them challenge cup but the rest of the stuff fits
