899 899 Superquadro - Ducati's Best Engine Ever?

  1. Found this link to a great write up on the technical changes made sizing the 1199 engine down to 899, basically it states that due to the re-size, the 899 engine is over engineered and should be bullet proof, its a good read.

  3. Yep the 899 has definitely the best engine, after the 1199 of course!;)

  4. I'm taking that as they learnt from the mistakes of the 1199 engine then... :)

  8. no idea who she was so had to google - :Bag::Yuck:

  9. Interesting read, would similar principles apply to the 848? I guess maybe not as it revs over 11k

  10. The engine in my 899 aint to clever at the moment :(

  11. dont the race ones go pop?
obviously when i say race i mean the one make series....

  12. What's up with it?

  13. pmsl. Best engine with worst chocolate conrods. :p

  14. I like chocolate :)

  15. Oil leak, engine out job,my mate had the same on his 899 and it required a full engine rebuild.

  16. Feck!
Touch wood mines only needed panels around the tail due to heat from a disintegrating heat shield.
And now a new heat shield.

  17. Its been leaking a while now,but i did not want to be without the bike over the summer,so i just keep cleaning it up after every ride, from where the oil is leaking it looks like a porous casing to me as there is no gasket around the area.Dealer is aware of the problem and will be sorting over the winter.

  18. surely the 899 and 1199 engines were designed and developed as one project, the notion that one is an understressed version of the other and therefore 'better' is naive

  19. Have u read the article posted?with the same bearings etc for both engines u couldn't have anything but a situation where the 899 is less stressed, unless they are pushing the rev ceiling which they aren't. Unless your suggesting that the 1199 is under spec and not built to handle the power output?
