movie review thread

  1. The way it works in my house is that there is a discussion with the wife about which film to download. Films are available in English or French. If it's a good French film, count me in (but most aren't, and if they are, SWMBO tends to have seen them). So that leaves English language films. If they are really good, particularly with famous actors, I don't much want to see them dubbed into French. So we quite often end up hiring second rate American films dubbed into French. Hunger Games was one of those. I wanted to know what the fuss was all about.

  2. The Hunger Games was weird for me. I tried watching it and switched it off after 30 minutes. Tried it again, months later, and it knocked my socks off.

Same thing happened with Inception. A similar thing happened with the TV series, Game of Thrones. It would appear that my taste in entertainment isn't a fixed constant.

  3. Hunger games was too much of a teen girl flik for me.

  4. It does tread that line, true. If someone says the line was crossed for them, I won't argue.

I did like how the dystropia was portrayed. The central premise was, admittedly, daft but the society was quirky and the photography quite sumptuous at times.
    Yeah - chick flick :D

  5. Ive heard the books are actually pretty good

  6. I thought Inception was total bullshit.
You can leave a comment on my blog if you like, telling me I missed the whole point of it! :)

  9. Gravity only works on a big screen in 3D, then its pretty good. Doesn't transfer very well to the small screen

  10. Hunger games left me wanting something else...

Guardians of the Galaxy was fun, in a super-cheesy brain out way. Its an updated version of those 1980's post-Star Wars movies that all copied the same kind of format. Would recommend tho

  13. I've just caught a bit of Underworld Awakening.
    It's unadulterated tripe.
There is only one reason to watch this franchise, isn't there? And I can't believe you don't know what that reason is. I'm pretty sure the makers had no doubts on that score.
