Ebay Bidding

  1. Can someone please explain to me how on earth I can be winning an auction with one second to go, then as the auction finishes I loose by 1p over my max bid!

The item I was after I've been searching for for ages. My max bid wasn't unreasonable but how the feck does this happen!

  2. Didn't think it could by 1p - but you should have put loads more on. If your disgruntled then it's your own fault for being tight :Bag: put on the max you wish to pay less than 10 seconds from the end and not a penny less. What were you after, I might have just bought it ;)

  3. If you were bidding for a Kriega US20 tail pack I have a spare one I can let you have for what I paid for it. :)

  4. My bad it was 21p. I did put the maximum, fair bid on, I wasn't being tight if you think paying £10 for a set of instructions is tight.
No bidding activity for 15min then bam, less than a second to go and it's gone. I just don't get it.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  5. The winning bidder just played a better waiting game than you. That's all.

So do you want this tail pack or what? :)

  6. Unfortunately not, but I now know where to get one.

On a side note starting to see that eBay is not the bargain it once was. Picked up a north face bag, brand new last night for cheaper than some of the second hand ones I was bidding on went for.

  7. not sure i'd buy a second hand sleeping bag. like using someones else's flannel. unless of course you like that kind of thing.

  8. I've done a lot worse!

  9. there really are some rotten b*stards about

  10. Its because the winner of the bid was using programmes like the horrendously titled Auction Sniper and Auction Stealer, which place the bid right at the last second. Just not cricket in my book

  11. Ebay now have a cut down version of a type Aucton Sniper themselves and their latest idea is to put forward suggested bids on certain items if you have been initially outbid. So if you place a bid at £5.05 say and it's not winning they suggest £7 and so on when in fact £6 would put you in the lead. I tried it once and then realised they just want you to extend yourself further, it's like a prelude to a bidding war.

You can never predict an auction you could be winning literally until the last few seconds and then all of a sudden all the bids drop in and you have lost out.

  12. May be worth just dropping the seller an email saying that if the auction falls through, you'd be interested. That's how I bought my Zx7r :)

  13. using snipping software - that's what I do and most of the other winners bidders

of just put in a huge bid in the first instance do that you don't get out bid

google should yield a few answers

  14. I just put in the max price I want to pay a few seconds before the end, if someone wants to pay more than I think it's worth good luck to them!

  15. Have a maximum you want to pay and bid in the last 10secs of the auction. If you win great, if not never mind. Do not overbid just to 'win' it. You dont 'win' anything. You pay for it. I 'win' 90% of my bids and I dont use sniping tools. Also include postage etc in your calculations. Only pay what you think its worth and not a penny more.

  16. why not just get on the phone and get a bit of craic with the seller. unsociable tightwads.

  17. whats the difference between using sniping tools and bootsam's method? bidding by proxy is allowed at all other auctions, why not electronically?

bottom line is sniper will still only win if their bid is higher than yours

sniping software also limits unscrupulous sellers from getting their mates to bump up the bidding, something that happes all to often if you bid early

  18. Shill bidding as it is known is illegal on ebay so if you do get proof of this happening it is worth reporting the seller. I have seen this happen once and the seller was kicked off eBay permanently.

Sniping can be used in other ways it is down to each persons approach when they use sniping tools.

  19. i hear you red, but frankly its almost impossible fro a buyer to prove, it takes minutes to setup another ebay account via a proxy server in another country in fact there are ppl that will sell you ebay accounts ready to use for 15 quid

doubt ebay could care less as they get a percentage of final auction values so its in their interests to see the bids hiked imho

with sniping services you set your maximum bid and forget about it, if you win great, if not you keep hunting.
no need for the 2 am " just a another tenner and its mine " only to realise you overpaid
