Buying An Eu Registered Bike In The Uk?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Exige, Sep 8, 2014.

  1. Have chance of a bike from Poland - still registered there but the bike is here in the UK.
Anything to look out for over the norm - such as could there be import duty to pay?
    Any help much appreciated.

  2. Has it got any miles on it? If it has - you don't want it :upyeah:

  3. Funny you should say that - I have one with no miles so this will allow me to ride one to stop you bitching :upyeah:

    ps: appreciate you help!

  4. Do you really think that it is within your power to stop me bitching?

That's what we're here for! :upyeah:

  5. Perhaps, perhaps not :Mooning:

  6. No, really, it's true - we are here to help :p

  11. Exige - have you looked back at the answers to your similar post about buying a bike registered in Germany? Thinking Of Importing A Ducati From Germany...help! | Ducati Forum

Since Germany and Poland are both in the EU, I'd expect the issues relating to VAT and duty would be the same. Not sure if there are any other implications of the fact that you say the Polish bike is physically in the UK, while the German one was in Germany.

  12. Thanks for reminding me ;), some similarities I'm sure. I think there is a difference as if the bike has been brought here originally by someone resident here it should have already been registered as soon as they arrived. If on holiday they are OK for 6 months I've just read. Think it could be a bit of a mine field. I've found info regarding cars in the UK still registered in Poland on Google and the general consensus is leave well alone.

  13. Exige I looked into a 998 from Latvia and gave up as it would have been liable for VAT

Thread here Importing From Europe | Ducati Forum

At least have a look at the Customs notes there that's straight from the horse's mouth so to speak.

If its under a certain mileage its classed as new no matter what.

    Hope that's of some use

  14. Cheers, I'm pretty sure VAT will still be due with it not being registered yet. It has 20K miles so no issue there. Think I'll give it a miss.

  15. I bought a 748 fromFrance back in the 90's. It was about a year old and had normal amount of miles on it.
Didn't need to pay any VAT or import duty as it was classified as second hand.
    It was a doddle.

  16. You can't check if it's been written off or as any finance outstanding on it

  17. Find out yourself big boy ;)

  18. Haha!

Anyway, ET ... get googling and stop wasting our time.

  19. Can't be arsed. Just like the OP :)

  20. Did I ask you a question? I don't think so. Get to work.
