Personally, I don't think the riding position on the 848 is that extreme. It's not any more focused than any other sportsbike out there. Sitting on an 899 (that I'm considering next) it felt a lot more focused than the 848 though... very different bikes to sit on at least. Test ride both, unless budget is the clincher as there's a big gap in price at the moment - in which case I'd just ignore the 899 as the 848 is superb anyway, but still ride one to see what you think.
Id say streetfighter....had situppy bikes all of my biking life and bought an RSV4 a couple of years back which I still own - its the only thing ive ever owned with fairing, (rode it to work this morning - which got a bit interesting with a lad on a speed triple...) anyway....as good as the RSV4 is (im comparing it to an evo848...same style etc etc...) my 1100evo hyper is the more fun bike drive and keeps you out of trouble....so much so that its been in the back of my mind to sell the RSV4 and go for a streetfighter1098 based on the above...the only thing that keeps me wanting to keep the RSV4 is that its good for long journeys. Went to the MotoGP last week and it was a good ride....bit too fast but good none the less...
I'd disagree. The 848 (or at least mine) was way more "head down, arse up" than any other sports bike I'd owned/ridden. It took me at least three weeks to get used to the position and my wrists were bolloxed in that time, so much so that I seriously questioned whether I'd done the right thing in switching to a Ducati from my R1. However I did get used to the 848 and it is a superb bike. However the 899 is more "superberer". And it is more comfortable than the 848. For me anyway.
Really? I didn't find it like that at all. It felt quite tall and very narrow but the bars / seat / peg relationship (for me at least) is pretty comfortable... but my last bike was a GSXR and it felt mental when I first got it, so maybe that's the reason. I still jump on the 848 now and find the riding position really natural and comfortable.
I find the seat and legs position on the 848 perfect, I sit really behind the tank. The bars are a little too far away for comfort sometimes though. Its more extreme than my Daytona was. Also the 1199 for me is a struggle, the bars are lovely and wide but the seat means my knees rub on the fairing and never really feel like I fit
Hi Phil, what have you opted for? If you haven't picked one yet I would be very careful on what you get. I have had all 3 848 Evo, the 899 and I have the 848 Streetfighter. I loved the rawness of the 848's My Evo had full system Termi's, one tooth smaller front sprocket and those were the only mods. at around 90mph if you dropped the throttle and then opened it hard she would lift piece of cake. My Streetfighter (848) mods Arrow cans, quickshifter and smaller front sprocket that will also lift in 3rd if you work the throttle right. 899 Mods Termi's, 1 tooth less front sprocket, hmmmm lovely bike to ride so smooth you could mistake it for riding a jap 4 cylinder, having the 3 riding modes was nice, and the quickshifter and the traction control is a real nice to have but it lacks the character of the 848 Evo It also feels less powerfull than the Evo, I have been told by dealers that I am talking out of my arse but here is the proof 848 Evo wheelies in 3rd just on the throttle at 90mph, I saw 175mph on the clock red lined in 5th never got the chance to slip into 6th. 899 struggles to wheelie in 2nd so 1 tooth less front sprocket helps that out but then it still struggles in 3rd to lift, @ 162mph in 6th the redline lights start to flicker on so prob a max of 170mph clock speed. Conclusion I miss my 848 Evo which was traded in for the 899, which is now a year old and I have just traded it in for the 1199s Dark stealth. I still have my 848 SF its a hooligan bike and I love it. Hope this helps.
