848 Falling Apart...

  1. Cleaned the 848 yesterday before going out. I did think to myself I should nip up any bolts but actually didn't. Got home to find I'm now missing a heat shield bolt. Typical eh.

How much am I going to be ripped off from the dealers to replace; and where's the cheapest place to buy locktite blue from?

  2. Robert Dyers sell the little locktight tubes for a few quid. Don't buy a huge bottle of the stuff though as that's very expensive and you'll never use it all. The bolts arnt too much either.

  3. Yes, you're gonna get ripped off, ridiculously expensive for what they arr

  4. I have a feeling its about 35 quid. You might take the opportunity to have a look for an after market part.

Mine fell off after 36 miles.... Replaced under warranty! Locktite is your friend!

  5. I am finding things are falling off or becoming loose, seems quite a common thing on Ducs :(

  6. That's twin vibrations for you! It's worth spending a few quid on a pritstick of blue locate and spending an hour with the bike nipping up each fastener. Saves a lot of pain in the future (and trips to the dealer for spares).

  7. which is where I am going this morning, to tighten up the Rear Indicators, replaced a bolt in the wing mirror clamps on the handle bars last week

  8. £8.95 for the bolt and another £8.95 for the washers + P&P. *Huff*

I'm definitely going to be spending this Sunday locktite'ing up every bolt.

  9.
  10. Seriously?! Did you try your local dealer? I was surprised at how cheap they were.

  11. That was my local dealer!!!

  12. Its the bolt, not the bloody shield :) :)

  13. Yeah I finally worked it out! I bought some fairing bolts from my local and they were very reasonable

  14. I bought two when 2 of mine rattled out on the 848 when I first got it. £20 plus P&p.

After that I used to tighten the bolts up after every ride.

  15. CMoto does them cheaper. Theyre alu and not steel but as the OEM are like chocolate anyway its no big deal. Buy plenty as it wont be the only one that rattles off. Ive lost quite a few.

  16. Mine fell out when I bought it. I now have st/st button heads in there for feck all cost and a blob of thread lock. Sorted.

  17. Heat Shields are notorious, for unscrewing themselves.. I replaced the standard bolts with large buttons from Pro Bolt, bit of blue loctite and its never been an issue since.

Maplins sell a blue Loctite lookalikey a lot cheaper and so far mine have been fine.

I suppose though you either like the fastners picked out or you don't

  18. Anybody have the size required for said bolt or a link to a website that sells them. Preferably looking for black.
