Whats definite is that a Yes vote will create uncertainty for a few years. How that uncertainty is dealt with is anyones guess because its uncertain. What is certain is that the markets will hammer those uncertain areas and costs will increase before they settle down. How that effects us all north and south is anyones guess but what is certain us in the south will get lighter bruising from it all. I agree about the wee eck statement above by Damo, a more charismatic leader mightve been better for the SNP and the Yes vote. I cant stand the sight or sound of the guy. I also detest his team westminster thing. This is not a political issue, this independance. This is peoples lives and their futures and its not a party political thing to kick around. Its bigger than that. This is a social issue, a human story. Its not about Westminster v Scotland. Its about UK v Scotland. Its about people and their lives. I too worry about a close No or Yes result. I think there will be violence and terrorism. I know my people well enough and no amount of burying heads on the matter will make it go away. Fin you must fear this too, even just a wee bit. Its become a fractious and angry debate now from both sides. I fear for the future as I can easily see civil unrest and scotland becoming a divided nation. As it is the Northern isles want their own way. Whatever happens I hope it goes smoothly and sensibly. But its such a contentious issue now I fear a spark will set the hairs running. I actually want a Yes vote now. Not because I want independence but because the damage has been done to the relationship with the rest of the UK and I feel they should just go now. Mark my words there will indeed be an independent Scotland but I assure you the border will be a lot further north than it currently is. There will be violence and civil unrest. The seeds have been laid and the anger is stewing. Scots can be a belligerent bunch and wont shy away from a scrap. Hence why theyve been front line troops for 300yrs. It will be bloody. Scotland will become another Northern Ireland.
They will have to have people work there, they are the largest banking provider, but...how many for how long and at what level? And at what cost, given Scotland will be an outlaying country not home country. Will strategy and decisions have to change for Scotland than the rest of the Uk? May be a good thing...who knows..and there is the issue, no one does know and Salmond certainly doesn't
Well I wasn't going to, BUT my take on this is quite simple and has been explained a lot more eloquently than I ever could by @damodici and a few others (@johnv springs to mind) in earlier threads. Many have chips on their shoulders, many think we could just do it better. Mrs T and the squandering of oil revenue has angered many, there are a lot of long memories for events perceived as slights. I mean celebration of Bannockburn (just about our only home win) FFS its was 700 years ago!!! As far as its "Oor Ile" (our oil) simply a lot of shite. Like it or not Wee Eck is trusted more than most, simply because he's way more competent at the game than the second rate amateurs he's up against. So the bottom line for me is would you throw away, the Honda on a promise of POSSIBLY something Italian and exotic, but might be nout. I wouldn't if made that offer but it would appear half my compatriots would, this leaves me a bit muddled, but that's where we appear to be.
possibly got the company wrong as i was doing all i could to hang on to my teeth, listen or watch the bbc today it was a major institution, that sent the letter out, there registered uk head office has been based in london for the last 100 years. it will be interesting to see if they air the interview with alex salmond after the grilling he gave the interviewer regarding the misinformation they where publishing.altho it was aledged there chief editor new otherwise.
BBC News - Scottish independence: The Scotsman newspaper backs 'No' vote @finm - I really couldn't give a flying fuck, I'm just enjoying winding you up and visualising you gnashing your remaining teeth whilst you seethe at the posts on here
there is som first off you should be giving a flying fuck or never talk about corrupt leaders again secondly i am such a dumb ass for getting so wound up by it, i hate injustice and serfdom. it does me napper in.
There is a lot of spin going on regarding polls etc with both sides grasping at any snippet that might support their argument. Interestingly the young people of Scotland, who will ultimately inherit the mess, are more in favour of the status quo Young voters could 'tip the balance' in Scottish independence referendum - Telegraph
Every scot keeps on about "our oil will pay for everything" who says it's there's? It was discovered in UK waters by UK companies which means they have a share of it! Is that not right? The National debt is the UK's debt, so they have a share of it, is that so! I may be bias because I am English. Grass is always greener till you get there.
Women are more in favour of the status quo also. It is the 30 - 55 working class male in the central belt that is currently the battle ground, hence Gordon Brown's recent input.
The whole issue has been mishandled from the start. The referendum was only agreed to by Westminster because they thought there would be an overwhelming No vote. Even the nature of the question with the status quo being attached to a "No" was a fuck up. Then the utter complacency of Westminster, which eventually turned to panic, was a disgrace. Gordon Brown is now offering, with the agreement of Westminster, a fundamental package of reforms that goes to the very roots of the UK constitution without any reference to the whole of the people of the UK. We are led by idiots. The only silver lining is that in the vent of a Yes vote heads will have to roll and there will have to be a complete re evaluation of what is left of the UK.
As I have often pointed out, the £Trillion or so UK national debt is also a national asset. Every pound which is owed by the government of the UK is also owned as an asset by banks, insurance companies, pension funds etc. and a portion of those are Scottish. If an independent Scotland chose to repudiate the debt, instead of shouldering a share of it, fine. No problem with that - provide Scotland also loses all the corresponding assets. What they cannot expect to do is keep the assets whilst shucking off the debts.
