had my 08 848 serviced with 5810 miles on the clock. had all the belts changed as suggested. £361 lighter. 1700miles later the service indicater has come on. just been quoted £380 for service and valve clearence check. is there any reason they couldnt of checked the valves when they chaged the belts, surely this would of saved a few hundred quid? so today im just gonna be sulking!
He might not be a fool, just misinformed :Wideyed: Although Ducati state 15,000 miles or 2 years with valves at 7,500 from a quick Google?
The launch of the 848/1098 range was lauded with increased mileage service intervals and extended belt exchange/swap times. Any dealer/shop should be aware of that. Generally the time dependent factor was increased to cope with the fact that very very few belts actually ever fail. You should take the stance that they should have done the valve checks at the time, as they clearly knew the time would come soon for that. They just saw you coming, all bright eyed and bushy tailed..............happy to spend more. Where did you get (it) done?
Valve clearances didn't need checking at 5810 but do now, and they will have recommended a belt change on age grounds, so looks like they did things correctly.
according to service book and dealer, belts every 2 yrs or 15000 miles. valve clearence at 7500miles. so would of been correct to change the belts? surey they should of just checked the vlave clearence and offset the milage though?
For some people another 1700 miles might take a year or two so no, it would be up to you to raise this if you felt it more beneficial for your particular circumstances I guess?
You don't say the time period between your last service and the light coming on - what was it a month or a year? Don't know the dealer but as yet I can't see they did anything wrong...
im not saying they are in the wrong, what he's done was correct going by the book. i just think he probably should of told me in 1700 miles the valves need checking socould of sorted something out.
The dealer was adamant the belts got changed to cover themselves if at all went bang. They should however have warned you the service interval light was due soon......and given you better advice.
And it's "SHOULD HAVE" nor "should of" ......... the English language, it's a bit of a tough one it is.
Shame AFAIK they have a good reputation. Not cheap but pretty damn thorough, I'd rather trust them than someone who was going to "cut corners"
i just feel a bit let down to be honest. i would of got them to check the clearences at the last service if i'd known. thanks for the english lesson. good job i dont have to use it very often, will stick to the maths!
So you don't agree with my comments above? You need to take some responsibility for the situation yourself I think
taking responibility doesnt stop me from been peeved off. to be honest i didnt even know the valve clearences needed doing at 7500 miles so i guess i should of checked. would of been helpful of them to say something. but oh well, lesson leanred.
Granted, but how long was it for you from 5800 miles and 7500 miles - a month, 6 months, a year, or more? How would they no how many miles you do? I'm not sure any dealer would do any different to be honest and if they are known to be a good dealer (there are bad ones out there) then you should maybe re consider your opinion? You might end up moving to a bad one
i guess your probaby right. just this summer, so 6 months. probably off to ducati coventry to be honest, closer to me then linclon.
