Thinking Of A Change

  1. Not quite sure if this is a normal feeling, but i think i am getting a little bored of motorbikes,i am lucky to have a 2013 pp multi(with heated grips and full termi ;) air con t) that is used mainly for days out with the wife and a yearly touring break,i also have a 899 that gets used on a more regular basis, the usual ride out with mates and most Saturdays i tend to do 100 miles or so and the occasional trackday.Maybe time for a change ?i am thinking a Rsv4(i need one) and Triumph tiger 1050 would give me the same sort of flexibility at a fraction of the cost,so i guess the question is,if Ducati ceased trading, what bike do you have now and what would you change it for.

  2. Fraction of the cost? RSV4 costs more than an 899, and probably off the road more, and cant imagine a tigher costs less to run than a multi

  3. You can buy a new rsv4 for 10,995. It comes with the full APRC electronics, QS etc.

  4. Was thinking more of replacing with used bikes, say Triumph 8k and rsv4 10k or 11 if i can get a new one for that, sale of multi and 899 should raise 25+,so i end up with the same sort of bikes with a fair bit of cash left over.As i said its only a thought, dont need to sell, was just day dreaming, but i do have a big crush on the rsv4, not so the triumph.I purchased the pp as my one and only do it all bike but tbh it doesn't,hence the 899,for what i use the multi for it seems a bit of a waste.

  5. As an alternative sports bike the RSV4 is a good call but personally, for road-riding practicality I'd look at a KTM RC8. In fact I thought about one myself before I settled for the 1098 SF.
1050 Tiger I should have thought would be an excellent choice of all-rounder. Fun, bomb-proof and a lot simpler than the multi.
Haven't tried one myself but those who have tried swear that one of the best do-everything bikes ever is the BMW R1200GS.
Go an have some test rides.

  6. If you can find a dealer.

  7. If Ducati ceased trading what bike would I have? assuming I wasn't allowed any Ducati, I'd probably stump for the RC8R like @Gimlet

  8. I too am looking for something different for my second bike. I have a 660 Tenere that I don't ride anymore as it does not put a smile on my face since buying the Diavel.

I am a little taken by the idea of a basic bike. Triumph scrambler looks cool but there shite (sorry 4x4) off road.
Not sure I want to ride off road anymore so it may be a goer unless something else catches my eye.

  9. Mate bought one from Regents Superbikes. A 2012 model new for 10.995. Great little bike. What a noise. But alas even more uncomfy than mine so i shall be looking at a Tuono instead.

  10. A new Enfield ?
Cheap as chips to buy and run and would be able to go anywhere as any damage wouldn't impact the looks :Woot:

    (Runs for cover....)

  11. Ive got an RSV4 factory (non aprc though) getting on for 3 years of ownership now....don't want to get rid of it....it is amazing but has to be ridden "not that often" as if I did my licence would be gone. Its a little bit of a cash cow...well, a lot really....since ive had it....

    1. Rocker cover update....Aprilia designed the original part and it was crap - new updated part available..... cos it was the factory they were magnesium....200 quid for the covers and all the seals.....12 weeks for the parts to turn up...6 weeks for all of it minus one cover, another 6 weeks for the other cover....
    2. Ceramic coat the exhaust for a number of reasons the main being to stop the corrosion. One of the nice things is the speed the pipe now cools down...runs a few degrees cooler now as well.
    3. On the second set of tyres.
    4. SAS block off plates to make a start of simplifying the engine setup...can only get the plates in the U.S. - cost me 130 quid in total....PITA to install - whole top of the bike has to come off along with the entire exhaust and the rad. That goes for anything really on them - everything is packed in so tightly you've got take everything off to get to anything.
    5. Lights are crap - fitted a HID kit, about 5 hours to fit plus theres a mod to keep the dips on while the full is on.
    6. Corrosion - although no where near as bad as my hyper ive replaced a fair amount.
    7. Drilled out the flapper valve so I can disconnect the flapper valve motor.

That's off the top of my head...the next thing is dyno time at CJS but that's going to be a biggie on financial side....reason isn't for performance - it goes way fast enough. The dyno work will enable me to pull it apart (again) to remove the solenoid that controls the sas system and also remove the flapper valve motor and finally to improve on the fuel economy.

Ive had a couple of oil leaks but nothing serious...ive got set of starter cables on order from Motolectric in the USA to beef up the starting and save the wear on the sprag.

  12. If ducati didn't exist id go for a MV Dragster instead of my hyper or, alternatively a new z1000 - I had an older 04 model a few years back and I liked it...very smooth.

  13. With regards to your first comment.....I think you use them too much. Too much of anything and it becomes boring....its been 2 weeks since I rode the RSV4 and probably wont ride it for another 2 weeks or so, then, when I come to ride it ive literally got butterflies a half hour before I get it out of the garage! now the winter is on its way they'll get used even less which is fine by me. As when I do use them its all the more of an occasion. Last year I think we had pretty shitty weather in one way or another for 6 weeks....by the end of it I was climbing up the walls to get out on either one of them....and im currently building a bonkers supermoto which'll add to it all.!

  14. Just sent my 70mm headers etc off to camcoat for racespec with TurboX black finish. Then I will hassle CJS on their return for a booking.

Comfy, does the frame get hot on your rsv? I noted my mates one does.

  15. Yeah it does...very hot. Since ive had the pipes done it runs a few degrees cooler and the front section cools down really quick...the frame is so close to the engine it cant not really....like driving a BBQ in slow moving traffic in the summer...

  16. Hehe, serves him right then. He always had a laugh at me with my burnt right leg. I might tell him about the ceramic coating, after a while or so.

  17. Think is ive toyed with getting rid of the RSV - not because there's anything wrong with it, but because it just wants to go. Couple of weeks ago I rode it to work and it ended up getting a bit interesting with a lad on a Speed Triple ( I wont say anymore than that). Relatively easy to catch him and get past him but I get to work and think " shit, shouldn't have done that....its got to go..." don't ride it for a while, get on it and think, "this thing is amazing....why did I even consider thinking getting rid of it" - till the next high speed tussle happens then it all starts again...!

  18. Think you right about using a bike to much,i have been using the 899 since December at least once a week and it just doesn't feel special any more,i will wait until next spring to see how things are then.

  19. Yeah... That's what I'm talking about..... I've used the hyper lot this year but only because the summer has been good this year.... And last for that matter..... But..... I know by next month when the weather closes in I'll be off it..... Pipe will be coming off for ceramic coating (that'll be a month) and I suspect a good clean also.

Get a project bike..... My ktm 525 supermoto conversion has been taking all my time for the last 10 weeks and I've not even turned a nut on it yet! I don't expect it to be running til mid November.

  20. If I were to sell it (probably not as I expect it to be the most awesome supermoto ever!) but if I were.... A hyabusa Street fighter with a 240 section rear.
