Thinking Of Buying A Cagiva Mito...

Discussion in 'Other Bikes' started by Exige, Sep 20, 2014.

  1. Is that a daft idea or not?

  2. no it isn't - had 7 - (still have 3) not to mention 2 and a half Planets and 1 and a half Supercitys. They are little gems (IMO) but often get criticised for being 'fragile'.

  3. Nope great idea as long as you are as svelte as an average 17 yr old. If however you are typical middle aged ol git then you may look a tad ridiculous unless you're fitting a pv motor

  4. A young 50 ;), 6' 1" and 13.5 stone

  5. I love the idea of a gag bike or a monkey bike but I know I would look like a tool on it. However I do keep thinking I'm 45 whatever cred I had died along time ago, and at least it will annoy my 9 yr old.

  6. Hard to find a good one though?

  7. dont really understand who cagiva are but we all ride daft bikes and have daft ideas so if it takes your fancy just do it :upyeah:

ive been offered a cagiva something for my thunderbird but held off,was expecting a ducati type engine but instead its got a suzuki lump and the styling is errm, well it looks like one of those home made streetfighters you see on flebay.
    prefer my tbird tbh. :D

  8. don't be knocking Cagiva now, : ) depending which 'Ducati' you ride, you might be in for a shock. Raptors are both good bikes but do avoid the 'River' and be aware that similar 600-single equipped bikes aren't the most reliable long term.

  9. I had one back in the day and i loved it! It was an everyday runner and i only ever had one problem with it.
Water kept getting in the oil tank. All i needed to do was extend the breather pipe in the cap.

  10. For anyone who does not know, the cagiva raptor and X-raptor(Carbon parts version) run the TL1000S engines with a much heavier crank setup.
Also, The frame was designed and made for/by MV.

  12. Had an early AF1 (127) worked on a few 122/123 engines and have great respect for Rotax engines but they are certainly not superior to the little Mito. Cagiva
build quality is as good as any 851/916 of the same period afaic but I've only had around 15 over the years so what would I know.

  13. I would love a stroker for mucking about on. My Aprilia RS125 got me addicted to bikes - once I hooked up the power valve! I would love an RS250 in my garage.

  14. I always wanted a cagiva mito! Purely because they looked like a ducati. Ended up with some strange gilera crono sp thing, I've never seen another one it was fugly and pink in some areas but my god it shifted!
125s of today are so boring compared to the 2 strokes of the 80s/90s.

  15. get a mito and put an rd350 engine in....or a big single xt660...

  16. I always wanted a Cagiva Mito as well, around 2000 I went to buy the Mito from the dealer in Oxford and basically they just couldn't get any from Cagiva so I bought an Aprilia RS125 which I have to say I loved (and have since owned another one which I only sold a few months ago). I loved the frame etc on the Aprilia but REALLY loved the styling of the Cagiva.

They get a bad rep, but really well cared for they are quite reliable by all accounts. I do think that Rotax (in the Aprilia) had the edge though in terms of ability to withstand teenagers.

  17. tbh having fifteen of them over years doesnt instill confidence they last very long at all, :Jawdrop:

  18. Thanks for all the advice! But I have been swayed elsewhere at the moment - I might be having a bid on this little number, a 1970's Jawa 500 speedway bike. Always fancied a Czech bike with my daughter being half Czech and half Yorkshire.

  19. Looks over-engineered to me.

Does it really need both of those wheels?
