for the last few days whilst warming my 1199 up on the side stand before going to work gear indicator constantly jumping between N and 1 which obviously means that bike stalls. bike is deffo in nuteral. this problem goes away when bike is warm (stop jumping between N and 1) but the upshot is - the only way i can warm engine up is whilst seating on the bike with the stand up. any ideas?
Warranty job - mine does the same getting replaced next week Mine sometimes just flicks between N/1 when turning the ignition on so I need to pull the clutch in to start it
so: quick update. quick google - loads of posts on US forums , apparently quick fix is a gear sensor replacement , common problem called Metropolis Ducati : metropolis - we've never heard about problem like that , me - its allover forums metropolis - dont ever believe forums, they are full of crap. me - OK, fine can i just get booked in for you to look at the bike pls? metropolis - 10 th of Nov is the earliest me- my bike will be out of warranty by then? metropolis - not our problem, you will have to pay for repair so called ducati, they logged the problem and confirmed that it will be fixed under warranty even if it will be looked at after it expires. they were concerned with metropolis attitude and told me that they will have a chat so ive booked myself for next month ( not with metropolis) and this morning: bike works just fine , looks like problem gone away? probably not for long thou...
The intermittent problems are the worst. My DES light comes on every now and then. It doesn't effect the suspension but I told my dealer about it as the warranty was about to expire and was told not to worry about it and they made a note incase it starts playing up again after the the warranty expires. Sounds like you haven't had good service.
Going to Snells on Tuesday to get mine sorted - will find out what the fix is I am sure they said it is a common fault and they keep the parts on the shelf. Always use them despite a 70 mile trip to get there - cant recommend them enough. With attitude like that from Metropolis I would be telling them to whistle for the business and go elsewhere!!
thanks mate , pls let me know what they say as i will try to get dealer to order part before i turn up save me waiting .
called snells this morning. different world! really nice friendly bloke, knew exactly what i am talking about, warranty expiration is not an issue and they can see me within 2 weeks. needless to say I've cancelled my appointment with another dealer and booked in with snells. if they actually as good at work as they are over the phone they will get all my business (which is surprisingly a lot from 1 person)
Can wholeheartedly recommend snells...Tom and Nick are the guys i speak to in service and they cant do enough for you
Shall not be using metropolis then. Dealers don't understand that we all talk very small minded of them.
Recently picked up a second hand 1199. The day after I got it I had a warning on the dash saying 'Gear Sensor'. Like you, I checked the forums. What concerned me was that after 5-10 miles it would all start working fine. I only had to stop for petrol though and I'd have another 3-5 miles before it started working again. Biggest irritation being the fact that I couldn't start the bike on the side stand. The supplying dealer fitted a new gear position sensor and problem cured!
Sensor fitted here as well. Also had the rear shock and new exhaust under warranty. Top job by Snells
Rear Shock squeeked when you sat on it like a hamster on a wheel Exhausts - outer shields were hanging and the exhaust wadding was falling out, so the shields were rattling as they had around 5mm movement Top job from Snells sorting this out for me
just got my bike back from Snells today . looks like gear indicator issue been sorted plus few other issues done under warranty . got to say - the attitude and the whole experience of dealing with snells is something ive not experienced before with any other dealer. proper pleased with them. and yes almost forgot - fitted pair of M7RR's as well
