Most was about 1200 mms (750 miles) - Gascony to Andorra to Lausanne, Switzerland. I don't know why I thought that going right out of my way to Andorra would be a good idea. After about 500 miles, I realised it was a crap idea. That was on the 999. I also did Lausanne to Cambridge 2-up non-stop in the early 80s on a Honda 400N - not much motorway there. Again, it seemed like a good idea at the time. In Calais with a wicked sore throat (it was spring time) it didn't. That's about 630 miles. I used to visit my parents in Gascony from Switzerland once a year for about 15 years or so. That's 550 miles each way. I did it on the 906, 851, 907ie and 916. Most of the time I had the choice of the 907ie or the 851/916 and used to agonise over the decision. The 907 was comfier, but the Superbikes were faster and more fun in the massive corners of the Massif Central. I usually took them. I always did it non-stop, apart from petrol and a sandwich somewhere. One of the more epic rides was when I decided to do some mountain passes one Saturday. I'd done some the week before and didn't want to do the same ones, so I set off at 6am and got back at 6pm, 500 miles later. I had done 12 of the high Alpine passes, there was no strength left in my forearms and wrists. I was well and truly pooped. That was on my 851. I just rode all day. Must have been fitter then. There was a time in the 90s which lasted years when I would routinely ride 250 to 300 mile days. I'd barely take the thing out of the garage unless I was going to do that.
Dieppe to Andora 650 miles. Got off the ferry at 04.00 and arrived in Andora at 17.00. Sore arse. Now have gel pads in my saddle. Regards Steve
Bassenthwaite lake district to Hayes Bromley on a vfr 400 6 hrs 270 miles done donnington there and back
Cromer on the Norfolk coast to Helston, Cornwall, on a CX500, 2 up about 450 miles without using motorways, went Cambridge, St Neots, Bedford, Bletchley, Buckingham, Bicester, Oxford, Hungerford, Devizes , Taunton, then down the 303, dropped the bike in heavy rain @ Oxford services when stupid cow walked out between 2 coaches, bloody knackered when we got there but great fun!
WDW'98, me & mrs WAH two up on the 900ss (should have taken a boat, never seen rain like it) day 1 left Essex through to overnight in Besancon, day 2 to Hotel in Rimini via col petit st bernard (fresh snow in June!) madness. Boys outing to WSB Imola, day 1 Essex to Simon's brothers place in Geneva then day 2 to hotel Bologna, me on the 900 again mate Simon on his SP2 Honda. Bike used half a litre of oil each way, otherwise brilliant.
Guessing Nurburgring to Sheffiled in a day on Gixer sevenfiddy.... Not quite sure of the miles but bike just ate it all up and fuel too !!
every summer london to nice, normally on unfaired bikes in the 80s ,rode like a lunatic but petrol went so quick was stopping every 21/2 hours or so for fuel coffee and a fag, took 11 hours normally from calais.Noticed that when i was walking in the streets the next day was still doing lifesavers on the bloody pavement.
At least once an hour for fuel through Germany. 100 mile tank range an 100+ miles per hour on autobahns = lots of fuel stops! One stretch was Colditz to Gorlitz on the Polish border (just over 100 miles) in 47 minutes.... and another fuel stop!
Bardi Italy to merthyr 17 hours non stop average quickest 16 hrs 20 by bike ,14hrs 30 by car [1260 mls ]
I did Durham to Caen (France) last year. That was a long day on an R1. Also Durham to Leatherhead and back in a day for an interview. (I got the job), both around the same distance I think.
450 miles from Fulham to Glasgow on Kawasaki ER-5 with no flyscreen. I bought a flyscreen for the return ride south. Seat was like a plank north of Wigan...
Did 600 miles in a day on my last FireBlade from home to Folkstone, then down through 2/3 of France ready for a push into Spain to go to Catalunya GP. Have down a few 400+ days in Spain in blistering heat as well, but to be honest these days I'd probably try and keep around the 250-350 mark.
Howdo! 2007 Mugello Moto GP - 1080 miles on me Superlight, last 400 miles as fast as me poor lil bike could go, keeping up with Jap 1000's = 40 odd mins between fill ups, just to get to the tunnel in time. Me ears where ringing for days!! Cheers Pablo
