What's the furthest you've ridden in a day?

  1. 820 miles from Toulon in the south of France to Kent 2up on a CBR600. Ride for 1hr - 100mls, fuel up, lay flat on the floor for 5mins then back at it! Hope to never have to do it again.

Saying that, we've got 600mls from Kent to Chatel in the French alps in a couple of weeks. Only thing that makes it any better is knowing my mate has to come all the way from Peterborough first. I'm only 20mins from eurotunnel. Unlucky Michael.

  2. This has got me thinking now. Going to Misano in September. should i get off the ferry in zeebrugge and ride to Rimini or should I take my time

  3. What will you be riding there?

  4. Hmmm, Scunthorpe > Coventry > North Wales > back to Scunthorpe in one day, mostly A & B roads, amazingly pretty comfy on the old 748 and no problems!
    Result

  5. 1098

  6. Bonkers. But hats off!

  7. 1000 miles in a Ford transit, Bedford to Barcelona in one hit on my own. On a bike it was day 2 of bringing my 900 SS ie home, about 375 miles (539 in total over two days)

  8. Home to Chemnitz for the german motogp a few years ago. 760 miles each way in blistering heat on a ZXR750. Could've been worse, my brother was on a 996...

We'll be doing Nuremberg to home this year (650 miles), but I'll be on a nice comfy Triumph:upyeah:

  9. It sounds pretty macho doing loads of miles in a day. But frankly, if they are on the motorway, it's complete tedium. You just spend hour after hour in the same position. If you go balls out, you drain the tank every few minutes and have to worry about radar traps (common in France on motorways). If you dawdle along it all seems never ending. Bikes don't make any real sense on motorways. There's nothing to do and you're no faster than a car. For trips looking like this, I tend to take planes - it's cheaper and a damned site quicker.

If you've got a long trip, take your time, do interesting roads and see some of the country you're driving through. You don't learn anything on a motorway and there are no prizes for travelling quickly or getting a sore arse. Plus you square off your super sticky tyres ruining the handling.

  10. Birmingham to Paris, 10 hours later the return trip, with about 50 miles around Paris totally lost. Was on my old ZX7R (loved that bike), with my future wife as pillion. Never again.

  11. Why go all that way and then immediately come home?

  12. Good question, we were visiting some French police officers as a type of exchange visit, and had booked an overnight stay. Because we got lost, landed at the hotel rather later than we had planned. Quick trip to the trifle tower, thought it was romantic, wifey decided it was cold. Off to bed, few hours kip, quick visit for a couple of hours, decided Paris wasn't for me, strolling around in a one piece suit. Decided to go home earlier than planned. Translated to roughly 1000 miles with an overnighter.

  13. ...Is the correct answer. Nobody's waiting with a medal at the other end.

  14. Rode from fort William Scotland to Swansea south Wales yesterday after a week island hoping around Scotland. I was on my new z1000sx and have got to say it's the most uncomfortable bike I've ever riden. My wife on the other hand was on her monster 796 as she was fine apart from a bit of neck pain. 2780 miles in total.
I would recommend the isle of sky for blasting. Wooohooo

  15. Norwich to the Ring in 7 hrs
Arse numb in just 2 hrs
    Knees crippled after 3 hrs
    Wet in 5 hrs

  16. Was it that exciting?

  17. had me weak at the knees

  18. i feel your pain!! ive done the same trip myself a few times on the 748....from arbroath tho...so i win!!!

  19. Well distance is easy if you live in a place like Australia, I have done 1000 plus k days a few times. Rode around Australia in 2010 , and ride from Wollongong to Phillip Is twice a year. Time in the saddle is probably a better measure of endurance.

  20. Me and emm did about 20mls yesterday ....... It was her first ride on the 7 .... For me at the back it felt like 2000
