1199 Opinions Please: 899 Vs 1199 Vs S1000rr

  1. Hello!

I am currently looking for a new bike and I am not sure where to go next. My last bike was a 2007 R1 which I wrote off a few weeks ago. I had had the bike from new and I was great for what I wanted - I used it for 3 or 4 decent trips a year, lads weekends away, trips to France, that sort of thing. I used a tail pack on the pillion seat and it was a great distance bike. I have a couple of other special bikes I use for shorter runs locally.

I want to buy an 1199 Panigale to replace the R1. I've sat on one and it seems comfortable enough for what it is but the dealer salesman said the 899 is a better road bike. I have read this everywhere! I will probably test ride both bikes in the next few weeks but my mates are saying BMW S1000RR will be the right thing for what I want. My head says S1000RR (which doesn't appeal), my heart says 1199. I have heard the 1199 is a bit of an animal - has anyone got any positive feedback on the 1199 as a road bike?

    Cheers,

    Jared

  2. Go with your heart

  3. I've ridden both and whilst the bmw is incredible the panni is just raw and therefore more fun

  4. Think of the bmw as giving you a nipple grapple and the panni a punch in face

  5. Buy what you want. I think a few on here have taken their Panigales on European trips.

  6. Bmw is a lot quicker.

  8. Had an S1000rr and a Pani S... You're on a Ducati Forum, sure you can guess which I'd recommend and which I wouldnt.

  9. ...for the avoidance of doubt the S1000 is NOT faster than the Panigale - and it certainly doesn't 'feel' faster either.

  10. No it's not !
    I've owned both
& both with race Zorts ! Lol

  11. I've had the 1199 for a few weeks now. I'd read so many times that it is too much for the road, the 899 is the one to go for. I find it a tiring bike to ride, but I think that's owing to it demanding 100% constantly. It is SO exciting to ride. I've never ridden anything like it, honestly. I only fun ride, don't do trips etc. Usually around 100-120 miles a ride. Seat was harsh at first but my backside seems to have got used to it now. The bike REALLY generates some heat that wafts up around the rider.
It's like in the films where kings and such like have a tiger on a lead. Lovely but you have to remember they can bite, be respectful!

    I LOVE IT! :D

  12. Or you could buy a CBR1000RR and be a Honda bummer

  13. But maybe he isn't :)

  14. Not quite, I'm quoting other 1000cc options... BMW, Ducati & Yamaha have been mentioned. I went with Honda as I would prefer that over either Kawasaki or Suzuki offerings.

  15. The 1199 is too much for the road in as much as it will tear your heart out with emotion and a need to ride it like you stole it. It will take your senses to the maximum they can handle and beyond. It is cocaine, speed and an orgasm each time you mount it. The 899 is the better road bike and it will do all you need, much like the 1199, only with added potassium bromide. The BMW is the Toyota of the bike world, it will do everything well, perhaps better than the 1199, but you will need to remove your soul and passion to be able to live with it.

    Does that help?

  19. 1199 go for it , rode rsv4r ,zx10r, ktm rc8r, s1000rr, r1, all lately my mates bikes and still got the panni, nothing ive rode gives you the fk me factor like a 1199, yes at times a pain in the arse, but its a superbike so it cant be a tourer I suppose,

  20. The BMW is a proper tool but opening the garage door and seeing that there will never give the same glow that seeing a Panigale there instead will.
