I'm considering an EVR carbon airbox as the bike will be stripped for a Nova gearbox install soon so it would be a good time to fit one, Other than the weight loss are their any performance gains to be had ?, I'm already using the high flow air tubes into the standard box, Any advice/opinions appreciated.
It is a thing of beauty , a lot of money just to save a few pounds in weight though, I know more air will help performance but their must be a limit to how much you can use ? There was a thread on an american site about the EVR box but it just ended up in an argument so I'm none the wiser as to performance gains.
I spoke to the very helpful guys at MotoRapido today, They used to run a similar airbox and seen gains of 1or 2 bhp after a remap of the ecu , ok for a race team looking to squeeze every last drop of horsepower but not really worth the parts & dyno time for club racing so I'll give it a miss.
You have a point,I spoke to Moto Rapido this afternoon, bike should be down with them over the winter to dyno and remap with the new airbox, I'll post the results.
Nice, u got an 1098r ? My 1198s was rebuilt by rapido, excellent job, remapped and put together properly, 170rwHp Duc performance filter, std airbox, Ti rods, new g-box. Almeria there were a couple zx10's slightly quicker in strt line, but not a big difference as would expect !!
Its an 08 1098R, Corse flywheel, cam kit,ecu & 70mm inlets, I had it on a dyno up here showing 207 at the crank and 99lb ft, It was only a power run though so I'm not sure if the fuelling could be better or the complete accuracy of the figures , I'll be happy once MR have dialled the ECU in, i havent heard a bad word about Wilf and his crew, looking forward to it
To be honest I've never heard of that before,I use the shift light for changing up, I've started club racing it so I'm just pinning the throttle and trying not to get left too far behind !
Rapido will be able to add revs to top end to let it rev higher, I believe some corse engines rev to around 12k
I see what you mean, I dont think I'd go for higher revs , at the moment its a reliable bike that gets a service twice a year and that keeps it happy, And the Akra is a great system without doubt, I'm wary of chasing big power figures that ruin the reliability though, I've met a few guys who had had full JHP or BSB spec work done, very impressive numbers but the bikes needed a full time mechanic to look after them , I think mine is within its limits and I don't want to push it any further.
Louigi Moto with CJS racing got a reliable and usable 196odd BHP from a 1098R. Don't know what they did but the torque was massive too and would demolish an 1199. Anyway, the airbox. Yes it's recognized that a well designed bigger box (like EVR) will give a bit more HP, but it will improve throttle response everywhere too. And unlike mechanical tuning it shouldn't reduce reliability as all you're doing is allowing the standard bit's to work more efficiently.
Isn't it just one of those things that adds a percent or two in most areas: tunability, rideability, hp, response...worth doing for the sun if the outcomes but not solely for one
Thanks for the info, really appreciate it, Its deffo on the list however I've had a blip, My big end bearings went at Almeria, morning of day 2 , Waiting to see the damage/ repair cost before any more upgrades are planned, Nova box has just been delivered too I got a BMW 1000RR as a loaner, stock road bike, no ohlins or fancy bits , was immediately lapping within 2 secs of my pb, Amazing bike with a quickshifter that works out the box , Sounds crap though !
1.51 , first day ,Hungover ! The bike beginning to stutter, wouldn't pull up the hill to the chicane in 3rd properly, I thought the clutch was slipping or the heat was an issue, it was over 30 deg, I was past the paint before it would get moving , shortly after I lost battery charging , I overnighted a reg/rec from madrid, fitted it the next morning, went out to test and she went bang Get her back on the 30th so will have a clearer picture then, Gutted.
When my rad cracked in january I used a zx600 !! Went 2secs quicker than I was doing on Duc at time, still only acouple secs slower than I was running round in September ! Not good news with Duc, rapido did a good job with mine :-()
I run 1t off front and it's flat in 4th over the top of the hill upto chicane, could still do with a tooth on rear !! Hopefully it's not too major and you've got the nova to put in !-)
