Only coming 3rd after running 2nd for a lot of the ducati trioptions cup race yesterday at silverstone, well done Jonathan Railton
Not sure if its still true bit...dont 848s hold most of the lap records still in the tri options? An wtf are they payong mackenzie for? When asked how much they weight, he didnt know and said 'certainly over 150' try 170 you muppet
I still think an 848 is as good as you need for uk circuits, with the times of front end racers not much off superstock 600, and of like any ducati you can afford to run one on track its the one to have. Sure you get eaten a bit on some straights but then you can nail the throttle so much earlier and carry more speed thru the corner. Love it: should have kept mine instead of having the gixer :Banghead:
Wise words bradders I think about changing mine to something with a bigger engine all the time but I think you are right, I'd be faster down the straight bits and slower through the corners. I was thinking it might be good to put mine on a diet to help power to weight, but not sure if it's worth the money ?
Makes things like directional changes easier. Check out the early 899 vids from test rider at imoloa and how quickly it changes direction in the fast chicanes. Means you may be able to carry more speed at a corner. I know from riding a mates DD bike, ok no power, which was 20kgs lighter than my 848 and my own DD bike that I could sling to so quick thru chicanes and faster into turns, it was lightening.
Was good to see. Surprising as the 899 should I guess be better on the fast open circuit. They did say the 848 still had most of the lap records but Mackenzie said something about how the 899 didnt have the settings for a lot of circuits as yet....
My 848 bitsa is constantly bum raped by the liter bikes in the straights, which is to be expected, the only thing that holds it back in the corners is my lack of skill and the tiny size of my balls!:Chicken: However, I imagine it's very useful to have that extra power of a lager bike if you are stuck behind a slower rider riding a larger bike, I have found that these chaps get bolder on the straights and slower in the corners. Having a larger cc machine would easily see you squirt past and free of traffic ready for the next corner.
Yep: cost of losing 20kg from bike - a few thousand pounds; cost of losing 20kg from me: a bit of willpower and some exercise. So why I am eyeing up titanium rear sets? ;-)
All this balls about rider weight, unless yor front of gp or riding low capacity low power bikes it doest make that much difference unless its major weight loss. You can move your body weight around, you cant move a 5kg battery around Battery a easy change, lithium instead can save 4kgs, after you've junked all the road kit you dont need then its more expensive for big changes, lightweight subframe another good change, you want to lighten top down if you can (expect the wheels, obviously) as it makes change direction etc noticably easier Rule of thumb is if you dont need it, take it off. Wiring looms can unplug, switches, bolts, anythung like that is free stick it in a box, weigh it and you can gauge whats left
Actually, you can lose 20kg off a monster for hardly any money at all. Take plastics and riad studf off, junk the loom thats not needed, chop the frame, remove all those plastic covers, ligher battery, single disc, 916 tank. Few hundred quid, cheaper than the gym memberhsip you will never use
If u start with exercise, eat less. You will feel better within yourself, be fitter, be able to ride at a harder pace for longer!! And save some xtra££ to spend on products for you're bike also. May have a lightweight Rr Duc subframe for sale ??
