  1. A career which has included being a journalist, columnist, author of several best selling books, TV presenter, chat show host, and producer of the most popular show on BBC2... So no, obviously no talent there at all...

  2. Clarkson may come across as a smug git sometimes, and obviously does things to attract publicity; but as Marcus Brigstocke once pointed out this is a man who not once, not twice, but three times has punched Piers Morgan in the face - and for that alone he deserves a knighthood !

  3. Totally agree, but I think that you've forgotten his upcoming and perhaps his most important position to date...
    Ambassador.

  4. Fig - in 1982 the known material interests in the Falklands were very small. There was certainly no prospect of finding oil reserves; and even if there had been it would have been beyond the capabilities of the era to extract the oil. It is still not certain that the oil that is actually there can be extracted profitably even now...

  5. You forgot racist.

  7. I'd heard that he actually has a full bike licence.

  8. I find him and his articles funny

  9. I hadn't heard that. I'd only heard that he is dismissive of motorcycles and motorcyclists.

  10. Does that make it true?

  11. To be fair you probably wouldn't hear anything if he took a pro bike stance.

  12. Does it make it untrue?

  13. Indeed. I think you would have to be a bit sad to skim thorugh one of his books (widely available in charity shops) and not snigger from time to time.

  14. All of those can be achieved with little talent these days especially if you can use the media to spout utter bollocks most of the time.

  15. Lol yeah it takes a special kind of 'no talent' to make 30 plus years in journalism and media

  16. You seem to have grasped the essence of the story I was trying to suggest. Sorry if I was too subtle for you.

  19. Definitely not certain. The whole of South America's eastern sea board will be closed to any oil and gas ops involving British interest around the Falklands. Unless of course the UK and Argentina go to table and negotiate.
Argentina is not the pariah state it was in 82. They will have a lot more local support than the UK and locals.

  20. It's funny how history repeats itself.
Cameron decided to save a few million quid by retiring the Harriers a few years early.
Next thing you know we are 'intervening' in Libya and our carriers no longer have any aircraft. So, we have to rent space on Italian Airfields instead of flying them off the carriers close to the coast of Libya. Plus send out a full logistics support for the aircraft that are sent out. It ends up costing more money than was saved by retiring the Harriers early.
For a party that claims it likes to support the forces and is for strong defence etc the Tories like to cut.
