749 Ducati 749 Swing Arm Conversion

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Tiago C., Oct 6, 2014.

  1. Hello everyone, this winter have idea of being "entertained" in making the change from the current swingarm to the latest model of the 749/999 series called "Black Box". (It is absolutely Gorgeous !!!) :)

I'm doing some research and from what I've seen, the conversion seems to be simple, like "plug & play", but doubts have arisen.
One of them is, if my current exhaust system works with this new arm? ( picture attached)
    I have 749S 2003 full Termignoni system.

I am very grateful for all the help / info you can give.

I want to eliminate all doubts before buying the new swingarm. 2014-10-06 19.34.03.jpg

  2. Your current exhaust wont fit under the black swing arm

  3. You will need different chain adjuster blocks.

  4. It's not a full exhaust. As the description says, it's a pipe that will allow you to use and old system with the newer swingarm. But your current exhaust needs to be 57mm, not 54mm.

"Allow to fit the 2003 / 2004 full system for grey swingarm to 2005 black swingarm"

  5. Thank you so much for ruin, what it was my winter project!!! (kiding) :p

    Thanks for your help!!

  6. Couldn't you just fabricate your exhaust? That conversion kit is bonkers money.

  7. Probably is a 54mm exhaust and just as well as the 749 doesn't like the 57mm one anyway . I would attempt to fit it . If it doesn't fit then Im sure you will be able to make it fit . Might just need a bit of persuading at the very bottom where it goes around the swingarm . 54mm probably easier to persuade than a 57mm.

  8. I'm sure I've read on here that people have been able to fit with your exhaust - read it somewhere anyway, but don't believe all you read

  9. Well I'm doing the same swap. I've just getting my temi headers and pipes polished just yet to fit them - but I've heard the same too. Ill let you know how it goes.
Onto the rear brake, did you change you're braided exsisting hose? Mines totally wong and particularly on the join / union / banjo on the master cylinder. The angles all wrong!! I definitely need a different one for the black box. Any suggestions?

  10. Tiago. If you've got all winter just look for the right exhaust then flog yours. Doubt there'd be much difference in price plus you end up with that much sexier rear end. Never know, eBay can be crazy and you might even make money.

  11. How are you getting on with the exhaust fabrication?

  12. Hello everyone, this idea of fitting the new swingarm its going to happen, just bought one!! It will be fitted next autumn/winter. Till then will try to find a good deal on ohlins rear suspension in order to fit all together.

About exhaust, i've found out that i have complete exhaust kit with titanium silencer and steel manifolds 50mm diameter.

Would this 50mm still wont fit the new swingarm?

  13. I apologize for reply now your question...
Last year i've abandoned the ideia of fitting the new swingarm... So i haven't done anything.
Now its going to happen no matter what!!

Have you done the swingarm swap?

  14. Top tip when fabricating - I've had two hand made exhausts / alterations for both my ducatis. Go to Wayne Jackson in Nottingham. 0115 963 5556. He's way cheaper and way better. Trust me I've tangible results.

  15. I think the OP is in Portugal :( with the nice weather :)

  16. Thanks for the advice, but i live in Portugal and will be done over here :p
What else you've done in order to fit the new swingarm?
