As I was riding along yesterday I tried using a more sporty position and I found it worked quite well. The only oddity was getting used to having my arms bent so much and my elbows behind me somewhere. I know it's not meant to be a sports bike but I wonder if different bars are available to make a more sporty position easier?
Don't think there are any "off the peg" options. Though If you get the OD you can try any out there in the market. The only issue I see is clearance from the screen section, plus the locating pins on switch gear etc that will need to be filed off.
As stated there is clearance issues with the screen but you'll also find that the tank gets in the way. I managed to get a more 'sporty' position with mine by rotating the bars back and down but had to fit 1" risers to allow them to clear the tank. I hated the way my elbows stuck out with the OEM set up.The locating pins for the switch gear are roll pins and can be pulled out.
Today I adapted and started to hang off the bike a little for the first time going up Kirkstone Pass. It was as close to a track level of awesome as I imagine can be had on the road and it really helped develop my riding.
I clicked on this thread as I thought we were discussing a new place to drink! The OEM Pikes Peak bars on the 2013 model are black.
If you want black bars then do what ACT and I have done, man up and get the PP. It's illegal for lesser riders not on a PP to have black bars.
You see I like the idea of a PP but they are a bit to common where as there is only 1 of mine ;-) Might nick the bars though
I've some MTS1200 bars (used, but straight) for sale that you could get powder coated? £30 inc postage.
Thanks for the offer but I have the normal bars I could get powder coated over the winter, would prefer another set as if I ever want to I can put the bike back to standard.
In that case...I'll keep them. You could always talk to AndyW as his tricked up MTS1200 had black bars.
Multi does t like hanging off and moving around, it really upsets the chassis IME and gets wobbly with quick direction changes eg roundabout or chicane
Wobbly? , dialled that out on standard suspension and running recommended tyre pressures. low tyre pressures no good on the road. Agree on the hanging off malarkey though, just lean the fekker over without any monkey business!
I'm a noob so ignore me but I found hanging off a little reduced the lean angle a lot, which made me far more confident going around wet leafy bends in the lakes this weekend
Its does yes, thats the point. Bear in mind everyone looks a knob on the road doing it: doing ot on a multi at 10mph even more so Lol
I did feel like a total knob hanging off it at 30mph with cars hooting their horns to get by (joking but not that far off the truth)
