  3. Clever, an old ebay trick to get the buy-it-now clickers to suddenly realise they spent a lot on what looked like a bargain.

  4. Ebay didn't used to charge fees on postage cost so that used to be the main reason. People used to put the 'buy it now' price so to speak on the postage and £0.99 on the start price to avoid fees. Now Ebay charge on the postage fees too I think, so now definitely as you surmise.

  5. Simples - Click the buy it now button, then tell the seller you'll pick it up personally...
