900ss Ie Transformation.....with Some Help

Discussion in 'Builds & Projects' started by Petrusotto, Oct 9, 2014.

  1. Hi there,

I am fairly new to the site and forum, but so far had a lot of help with my St4s start problems.
time to move over to my 2000 900ss ie which I bought cheap some time ago.never like the bodywork, but I fancied an aircooled engine that reminded me on my 1974 750 s I had years ago 001.JPG

  3. Welcome!

    I love that old 750S.

Just had a thought - you don't want your 900's forks, do you? :)

Enjoy yourself here in the mad house!

  4. thanks for the welcome Loz!
The 900ss forks? Always open to ideas, one is an RSV Mille Ohlins front fork, since I have plenty of spare RSV wheels from my track day bikes. I am not too keen on the 900ss 3 spoke wheels
Why did you ask? You need one?

  5. I do indeed need a set of forks for my 750S.
Are the ones from your SS Marzocchi or Showa? I can't tell from the photo.

  7. I fancied making the ss into a café racer/track bike. Spotted the Spaggetti exhaust system at the Madasl website and got in touch with Mark Lumb. He collected the bike to fit the system that they are producing themselves. I also asked him to look at a small oil leak, which turned out to be the damage you see above! Probably the chain snapped?
Anyway, he repaired it and then we started changing the bike after I saw some of his bikes on his website

  8. I had a crankcase wrecked by a snapped chain on my 750. I had a case saver ready to be fitted but waited too long.
Coincidentally, it was Mark who fitted a replacement engine for me :)

  9. Not sure, I think Showa. I need to have the bike back before I can say whether I will change the forks. It's an on going project. Right now its being assembled and it will be on the dyno in 2 weeks. Ready, rough guess, end of nov.

  10. What is this case saver? Never heard of it.
You needed a whole new engine? Must have been a BANG!

  11. Let me know if you want to flog them! I am currently without forks for my 750 and I miss riding it :(

The casing was well smashed. There was an option to weld it, I guess, but a spare engine was available so I opted for that. At least I have some spare bits for my current engine :)

  13. Hello Petru, I had a bevel 750 Sport in 1980, not as tidy as yours. Great bikes.
I have a SSie that's streetfightered, I wasnt keen on Terblances fairing either. If you're looking to create a bevel Sport lookalike check out RedMax in Sussex. He(Steve Hillary) is converting monsters into Sport Classic style café bikes and has some cool Imola tank/seat units.

  14. hi Streetfighter900, thanks and those are nice bikes he creates. But I am more looking for a functional look. 916 top fairing, single café racer seat. Bit like one of Mark Lumb's (Madasl Racing) bikes Alassandro Race Bike.jpg

  15. Ah yes.

See how the original silencers also double as crash bungs :)
    (Mark knows what I mean.)

  16. Like that a lot. Chopped nose looks well and ie tank is pretty.
