1098 Anyone Wondered What Your Swing Arm Construction Looks Like?

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Exige, Oct 10, 2014.

  1. Probably not...

but while I was deciding on which swing arm I would use on my Project KR No2 I came across this sectional view of a 848/1098/1198 Swing Arm. Thought I'd share it just in case anyone was interested :Shy:

  3. Well, you know now anyway :D

  4. only when i am 140+.

  5. Where would you put (the now obsolete) tax disc?

  6. I notice that is constructed from two sections, is it welded or bonded?

I also have a couple of technical questions...

If you showed the cross sectional area from a yellow bike, would the red section shown be yellow, and would the colour change make it lighter for racing purposes or are red ones truly faster?

  7. Fook knows - but the red Vs yellow question is an interesting one for sure... lately it goes like this:

    916 - red faster
    996 - equal
    998 yellow faster
    999 red faster
    1098 red faster
    1198 red faster
    1199 red faster

    Thanks for you're interest.

  8. I was thinking about this last night. Talking to MADASL about using a modified Ducati trellis frame on my NC30 project and was day dreaming about a tubular sssa to match...

There's a lot of things to consider when it comes to frames and swingers

  9. I was thinking on KR No2 using a 1098 swing arm with the shock still on one side - but obviously on the left instead of the right as the original - thought it would have been quite wacky. I would, however, have had to cut into the swing arm and re shape to allow clearance for the shock and lower mount. I had been considering swing arms fro ages and ended up with this idea - then realised the true solution was sitting right under my nose - a later Black 999 swing arm would look the dogs bollocks with my Penske Shock - so going this route now.

  10. something like this?

  11. Is that one of yours or from a production bike?

  12. I wish! It's actually from a co in the US who are in the process of making them for the 796/1100 Monster's. This is their 1st prototype.

  13. I saw a nice one in MADASL workshop a while ago but I think it was from a production model. I'm not sure which though

  14. This was done by Bestemusa, see the thread in the Monster section.

  15. I could do that, couldn't a month ago though

  16. Do you do commissions? ;)

  17. Only on KR1000's at the moment - my time is taken for now ;)

  18. I can bend it and stick it together, it's getting the design right that would break me

  19. I can design it and bend it, but it's my none existing welding skills that would cause it to brake ;)

When I say design - I mean reverse engineer of course...

  20. What material do you use?
