I can see in the forum posts by category which Ducati models create the most discussion, but I was surprised to see the Monster is so quiet. Is this because of the Monster forum? Anyway, the reason for my looking was that I personally prefer the air cooled motors and own an SS, the main reason probably being that this was the kind of bike available in my early years. But I wanted to know how has the landscape changed? Are Ducati air cooled fans more drawn to a different model these days? My preference goes something like SS, Hypermotard, Multistrada, Monster, then the purely retro stuff a distant last.
Monster for me. Like the general lines, although they look even better with drop bars and a café racer overhall
I assume it was only ducati related air-cooled-ness...Hyper for me....on my second one...first one - and first Ducati - got cold feet and got rid of it....(wish I hadn't as it was perfect) reasons: Noise, sounded like it was going to blow up at any minute, sound - had a full zard system but sounded like a wet fart - and the fact that id never at that point owned anything with fairing so that was a draw as well, but, ive got my second one now and not getting rid of it...well, no plans to anyway...
maybe they dont break down so often so that means less threads about that side of ownership (multi, 1199, etc cant say that) , and i guess alot of people may not have much to say about their bikes if theyve had them a while (my monster 1100s just doesn what it does) . Most threads are about newer models.
Yeah - the thing that surprised me most about my hyper is even in on the hottest day of the year in the middle of the summer, stuck in heavy traffic, in town the temp never moves above 3 bars....incredible whereas - RSV4 - standing for more than 30 seconds is like riding a BBQ....
I love simple bikes, that is all really. Been dirt biking more than road biking these last few years and I would love a decent air cooled bike but there aren't really any powerful and light enough. Not so with these air cooled Ducatis.
Supermoto for you then I would say....light and powerful - lot of maintenance though...CCM or something like that - not that I like CCm's but theyre aircooled from recollection...if that's youre criteria..
Hyper 1100 EVO for me, I love my old 1990 900 ss but with no fairing to remove & an "old git friendly" riding position the Hyper wins...
I like the SS frame, the way the rear cylinder is outlined by the frame tubes looks good. Shame the rear head can't be removed without motor out though.
Got my 796 Hypermotard and LOVE it Termis and LV de-cat pipe,ECU flashed to 1100 HM's hp,does everything I want it to do.Love twisty roads, cos anyone can go fast in a straight line
