They write them off for fun these days. I have had a few bikes from Copart they have been minimal damage
What is it worth? I notice its the ABS model and I think they are circa £16000 new. Would it be a good buy at 10k?
ok it has prob had its neck wrung a couple of times but as someone pointed out that it has prob been looked after by Ducati while at Silverston and there are no apparent signs of being droped I would expect a new clutch would be about all that is required, ok that will not be cheap but 10k maybe a bargain for someone... but still a viewing would be in order
Evening Andy IMHO it would be a really good buy @ 10k The most it will need is a clutch & maybe a chain & sprockets Cheers Paul.
I still think it will fetch more than 10k. More like 11k or maybe even slightly more. Somebody looking for a cheap track bike will snap it up and not be bothered if it's been used as a tuition bike.
However much it has been used on track, i think it would be difficult for even CSS instructors to thrash an 1199 too much.
I would be wary of clutch and gearbox, 195hp going through the gears etc for a extended period continuous must have a detrimental effect on components. Especially with the quick shifters used these days.
In essence then what may seem a bargain at around 10k could end up costing a lot more if major components need replacing? Might give this one a wide berth.
Isn't it still under Warranty being a 14 bike ? If it's going to go bang ...... I had a brand new 1098 in August 2007 went to the Manx gp & the gearbox locked up !!! Less than 500 miles
Good point Paul, but the fact that this has started its life as a track bike may, and only may, have a profound bearing on warranty should anything arise. Could that be the case any one think?
tbh I don't know if the factory warranty covers for all use,, that would / could cover racing / competition,,,,,,, sitting j now at 8.7.. that has to be worth some interest even allowing spendin 1k on it,, but if it goes up much more then its a no no without a proper viewing,,,, and anyway max 10k. I don't see the point in taking a risk, even if it looks / feels ok on viewing / inspection to save couple grand when s/h ones are av for 14k anyway
Not sure how they'd prove it ? Unless it was registered to a Race School ? Just my thoughts ...... If I was looking to buy 1 again I'd pay 10 for it. After all unless u know the person yr buying from. You really don't know a bikes history do you ???
