The rider promised Steve he wouldn't abuse the clutch too much! I guess if it was a bike from Ducati he'd have just slipped it loads with the throttle pinned!
I'm no drag racer but, I've seen an on bike vid of 1199R managing to run a 9.55 quarter mile some where here in the US, he said key to a fast run was to be easy in 1st & short shift to 2nd ASAP I forget his launch rpm's but think it was around 6k
Yup, it's my bike, Chris Northover riding. As Nick says, I'd asked him to be nice to the bike. The trouble was keeping the wheel down and not spinning up the rear wheel at launch.
Maybe the SL is dfferent. I thought there was a gentlemans agreement to limit to 300 km/186mph. Is a panigale even geared for 200mph?
Clearly not, as it revved out in top. If you changed the gearing, it would break 200 mph, but then it might not have out-accelerated the cars up to 150 mph. Of course, it's all meaningless if you are going to get booked for 95 mph on an empty dual carriageway in the country...
For those who don't know I think that the SL has an extra 1000 revs over the standard Pani's. Hence the 190 odd MPH. Read or Heard it in the Spec's somewhere.
The 9.5 sec 1/4 I mentioned was in fact 9.7, just needed to rectify that, same time Cycleworld mag achieved on their review 1199R v HP4 SL & R's have the same 12k rpm limit. My speedo goes blank after reaching 185mph but the tach is only on its 1st red light signal at that speed I cannot take my eyes off the road at that speed but, I think there is still another 750 rpm's left until 12k My hi speed vid'

All four valves (intake and exhaust) in each head are now titanium, as are the Pankl connecting rods. The tungsten-counterweighted crankshaft, which weighs one pound less than stock, works with lighter two-ring racing pistons and a compression ratio that has jumped from 12.5:1 to 13.2:1.
The thing worth mentioning is that there are a lot of us on the forum with bikes close to the Pani for performance. While the SL is an exceptional bike, there are still plenty with standard Panigales and other marques which are close to the 200BHP. So in theory, we could all post a respectable time up against the cars. Few of us consider if we want the optional floor mats ordering the 918. So for me, the main thing the test reaffirmed was that bikes are simply more cool for less investment by a long way. I'll happily thrash a bike and I happily thrashed my Caterham but I'd be wary of really ploughing on the miles and nailing every gear change in my P1 or 918 etc. The bikes aerodynamics are always going to make more difference at high speed as well but it would be interesting to see a MotoGP bike in the same race, no gearing issues and better aerodynamics than a road bike.
