Fuel consumption

  1. Being new to the forum and Ducati excuse me if this has already been covered !. I became the proud owner of my 1098s last month, and as you know the weather has been rubbish, however I managed to get a full day out on my new bike last week. I filled the bike up from nearly empty and within 80 miles the fuel light was on is this normal ?, I was thinking I would at least get 100 miles to a tank. The bike has covered 7600 miles and is fitted with a full 70mm termi system with the relevant ECU fitted. Would the bike benefit from a power commander to help the fuel consumption ?

  2. Yup that's normal........

  3. 'ooops' better get our lass to buy me a fuel tanker for Christmas

  4. The smaller than you think fuel tank can be a pain. 6 of us out riding last week 4 Dukes and 2 Suzuki's guess who needed a fuel stop...

  5. I'll bet anything you like you can get 100 miles out of it. At least. The 999 is really variable in consumption. Even some times when you don't think you're winding it on much, it runs out quite quickly. Other times it goes so far on a tank you're convinced the light bulb has gone. But if you really are winding it on - nah - you won't get many miles out of a tank.

  6. Not if you ride with any kind of urgency you'll see 100 miles, stick to 40 Mph behind the number 6 bus and you might get somewhere near. 15 litre fuel tanks just don't really cut it......hmmmm now there's a thought, can I convince me to buy a carbon fiber 18l tank so I don't have to stop as much

  7. I knew there was a good reason I never traded up the 999.

If you've got to stop every 80 miles (a joy in rural France on a Sunday) all your urgency will go to shite.

The every 110 miles on the 999 is a pain as it is. "What, are we stopping again?" all your mates shout into their helmets.

  8. ive never owned a 1098 but i did have the pleasure of riding my mates around the Melton/Bourne run up here in the Midlands...i found that the frequency of fuel stops (about 80 miles as you say) was matched by the frequency of finding and refitting those cute little airvents either side of the seat!!..3 or 4 times they fell out...he came back from Assen last year and they'd gone for good!
still, i wouldnt mind one though (but i aint getting rid of the SP for one)

  9. Aprox 56 miles in 22 minutes with the 999R on the Autobahn . And that was to run out not the light.

  10. Try rural Italy on any day after around 2.00pm, no fuel, everyone has gone back to bed or on the piss. Why do they do it?

  11. Because they are all like Dylan in the Magic Roundabout.

  12. Don't worry about it bud.

I put a 22 Ltr tank on my 1098S for a recent trip to Germany after others on the same trip moaned about stopping every 80 miles or so for fuel. It gave me a range of 135 miles before the fuel light. Then the buggers who moaned about stopping, stopped every 80 miles for smokes, pisses, coffee and fuel. LOL

  13. Its the smokes that hold you up! the 22l tank is a great idea for the continent, once when abroad we stopped in luxembourg to find massive queues waiting for pumps that had no fuel, it was some sort of strike, that tank is then worth its weight in gold. btw, how far could you get on the last 5 litres?

  14. Ok I'd better get ready for this, sounds like my new 1098s and capital one credit and are about to become well acquainted !! ;-)

  15. I have the same bike. 100 to the tank is OK on a run and then 20 to empty 120 in all. However a few short runs and start winding it on and it comes down quite quick. On a fast run in France I got a regular 100 over 650 miles in a day. Has it been serviced at the correct intervals?

    Regards Steve

  16. Thanks for all your comments guys, seems like 80 miles is the norm so here goes the bank balance

  17. So what i get from a 848 in miles on a tank full of fuel ?

    Richie

  18. First of all we dont know how you ride.

Secondly try it and find out

  19. What are you getting out of yours ?

  20. I think I get between 80 and 100 miles before the little light comes on riding on normal roads. Full to bone dry in two sessions on track on the Silverstone National Circuit (I had to be pushed back to the pits)
