When I blew the engine I sheared the crankshaft and cracked the barrel.Serves me right for going like a loony and changing down to fast on the twistgrip and if I remember rightly going into first and massively over revving the poor thing. I also had lots of probs with nipping up-wish I had more tech savvy at the time.
Nope the side panels and the tank from the side looks blobby and unrefined. The heameroid under the seat looks wrong too. It will never be considered a design classic like the 888, 916 or the 999. Until they fix that side profile.
Shearing cranks was not uncommon, hence why I had Jap big ends, pin and rod. The italian crank was made of cheese. They also used to shear their woodruffs and ruin the keyways. A tuned lammy always had to have jap crank parts and rod otherwise it did what it did to you. I know because it did it to me too. Often.
mk 1, classic design ( drove like a girls hand bag but with some well proven mods makes a good car ) mk 2, piss mk 3, very nice
For me the 1199 is a marmite bike.I see the packaging/rear shock and I feel a little bit of sick coming up. Slagging off the bike that was voted best looking bike of the millennium the stunning 916-998 on a ducati forum is the equivalent of telling this guy you don't believe in the virgin mary lol. :Rage:
I must admit that ever since visiting the Ducati museum and then seeing these two at Boxhill the other day, I'd really like to have one. The only thing that puts me off is the 'classic' status and knowing that I'd want to ride them hard.
that mu must have been a mk 3 Cortina,, dont think the mk3 tt is on the road yet ,, in your dreams maybe
Wrong again, she was testing it - think her name was James May, if you don't believe me Google her - she's a car journo
Go for it royalwithcream and don't worry about riding them hard.Mine don't get easy treatment and is still going strong at 34,000 mls.Im thinking if I have a full JHP engine refresh in say 6000 mls ill see another 40k of happy riding.Desmoquattro sps engines seem pretty reliable from my experience if serviced right. I went for the non foggy 916sps version and spent the savings on extras.Happy days.
As Matt says Royal, dont worry about caning it. You will find it turns way better than the Pani and even as old as it is, it will still provide plenty of grins. Cue another opportunity to post pics of mine.
I think the thread should be renamed as I dont 'hate' the pani. I'm just not enthused enough to swap from my 1198. Things I like about pani = clocks, front looks ace, rear looks ace. Side...meh...but then my 1198 is a bit neutral looking. The pani has grown on me since release. But I wont buy one. I'm waiting to see what the new R1 is like. Its that or an RSV4 for me probably next autumn.
