[Q"bootsam, post: 451054, member: 25954"]I think the thread should be renamed as I dont 'hate' the pani. I'm just not enthused enough to swap from my 1198. Things I like about pani = clocks, front looks ace, rear looks ace. Side...meh...but then my 1198 is a bit neutral looking. The pani has grown on me since release. But I wont buy one. I'm waiting to see what the new R1 is like. Its that or an RSV4 for me probably next autumn.[/QUOTE] but I don't have an 1198 !!!!!!!! hope soon to have the ( 2nd :Banghead: ) prettiest one, 749, but even that looks dated beside that fkn Pani !!!
panni is v.comfy and was toying with a change.to god knows what tho. learnt to love the 848 towards the end of the season.
i know,i know.. the season never really finished for me before i bought the ducs. will i be getting me peg back to day? 2001 24k mls on it how much should i offer. it was tidy enough when i sold it 3 years back. comfy and throw about-able with out worry of a v.nasty repair bill.
Err, don't think so... You ridden a Pani on track? Very flicky and stable. The game has moved on since 2000... Get over it.
You are probably 100% correct Mary. Ive not ridden one on the track. But I have on the road a few times. It was nowhere near as flickable as my 916 and thats what I based my judgement on. But I am used to my 916 and I own it, I may have been a tad more reticent to dump the 1199 on its side as it was a demo bike. Plus my 916 has better suspension than the 1199s and its been properly set up for me by HM. Plus ive got mag wheels. So the 1199s i rode might have been a bit stiff for me and as I said if i bin it i pay for it so...I concede your point.
You must have the best 916 ever then, as every modern sports bike (and most of the ear) are more flickable. One of the issues with teh 916 was that it wasnt flickable, but incredibly stable once in a corner
Mine is. It was a shock going to the 1198 which feels like it understeers in comparison. I have no hesitation dumping my 916 on its side and not worrying about it, plus it changes line easily to avoid manholes on the bloody apex. My 916 feels nimble to me, but ive had it 18yrs and it fits like a glove. The 1198 needs more muscle to get it to turn and once i figured the understeer feeling was easily removed by giving it some more lean that too now feels sweet. Just needs more input than my 916. Might also be the fact the 1198 is a damn sight quicker.
It's probbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbabbbbbbbbbbbly down to the individual rider/bike set up/weight. From my limited experience fecking about with these machines the geometry has changed very flipping little over the years (decades) However your 1198 will have a longer swing arm, which may account for the 916's apparent flickableness...:Bookworm: AndyB may be along soon to tell us about his happy trails...
If we're lucky, he might tell us we are all doing it wrong (but not how we are doing it wrong, obviously).
cool, i have a 48T clutch waiting to go in...will it make my 916 more flickable too? TBH i don't notice any difference in "flickability" between my 916 and my gsxr k6..except at the end of the day my shoulders hurt more after riding Daisy, so I must just be subconsciously putting more effort in...
The only difference the slipper makes to me is on corner entry. The engine braking doesnt 'feel' like its prohibiting me on a faster entry (ooer). But i guess its subjective. I'm no racer. Its more pronounced on the 1198 than the 916. (obviously)
If its like my k5 (pre suspension done, not ridden it yet) its not much better than a duke anyway and I can say my Evo turned and handled 100% better
I must agree that I'd find it really hard to believe there's an argument in terms of manouverbility as the Panigale does it all. It needs no muscle at all to get it on it's ear or to bring it back up again, and it will happily stay there all day. It's not as rail track like when it's down there as my R1 or my mates 749 ( are they similar to the 916??) and you have to be careful with the throttle but the trade off is well worthwhile. I tried a handful of new bikes before buying the Panigale and they were all a completely different kettle of fish to the older bikes, I was amazed at how much better every one of them was.
mAYBE i NEED TO GET SOME MUSCLES. Caps oops as the pani felt heavy to me. Youre an ex forces guy, and your younger. I'm an old oaf who smokes and is unfit. I probably find a grifter hard to turn thesedays.
Funny how most complainined when it came out that it fell into corners too easily, wasnt stable, too much like a jap bike...
