Ebay 851. Opinions Please?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Ian, Oct 23, 2014.

  1. ive asked this same question before albeit with a different bike, when the wise and learned on here pointed out various useful points.
    It's ebay item 291105120840.
I imagine its an non UK bike, as yet unregistered. I have no need for the bike, but I've wanted one for years, and I freely admit it wouldn't get much use.
Any points I can use when discussing it with the dealer would be much appreciated.
    Thanks all!

  2. Can you add a link Ian? Will be quicker in the long run. There was a bargain 851 to be had a few days ago - went for opening bid of 3.8k

  3. That's a 1992 model, white frame black wheels, nicest one imo, also got the later seat unit side fairings. The 93 model had the bronze frame and wheels.

It's been for sale for at least 6 months. I've seen a nicer, cheaper one for sale, I'll try and find it.

  4. That's the one, even with my limited experience that looks to be massively overpriced at that mileage. I will try and include a link to the other similar bike that sold recently.

  5. This was advertised on numerous sites only a couple of weeks ago, not sure if its sold or he's given up !

  6. Have a hunch that's the one that went for 3.8 as location and mileage similar

  7. Once again the forum comes up trumps with lots of useful advice!
When I went to view the last one (Febuary time?) the salesmen seemed very reluctant to discuss price. I may have a ride up at some stage this weekend...

  8. Have you not seen this yet - Ebay with no reserve - probably go for £5K or less if your lucky but look at it before you bid?

DUCATI 851 STRADA 1991 RED Without Reserve | eBay

Don't rush out and buy one with so many miles - you have all winter to shop and a few will come up for much less!!!

  9. I'd love an 851/888. Theyre uber cool. Maybe, dare I say it, cooler than a 916 and I'm a 916 fanboy.

  10. Agreed. Because the 851 was pre bandwagon - an enthusiast's machine. Also far more comfortable than a 916. Just needs about an extra 20 bhp or so.

  11. If getting a bargain is a priority at the cheaper (Strada etc) end of the models available then buying privately is the only option albeit with possibly more downfalls.

  12. And probably less down falls too if from an enthusiast!

  13. Ian. Mine's still around.... never did get round to doing much about it. No termis, Boss instead, with originals in box. It's the model Mr.R has quoted.

Where about in the country are you?

  14. If you're a mod, then learn how to quote and reply properly, it confuses me ;)

  15. Pm sent.
