What's an R1? Had an X1 when I was 16. Is an R1 the cooking version?

 

An R1 (well a 10 year old one) is what Ducati copied when they designed the 1198 - surely you know this?

General biking anorak here. I ride ~16k miles a year, have 2 bikes, tour, trackday, commute, I'm an IAM Observer (soon to be a National one), read 4 bike internet forums every day, read 3 bike mags every month and generally evangelise biking whenever I spot an interested person.

The 1198 doesnt look anything like a 10yr old R1. It looks like an update to the 916 shape. Albeit not a great one. I own one and admit the styling is neutral.

I know which one I'd have (in Red, as it's faster).

Ive a white one. It was cheap and brand new. Cheapskates cant be choosers. Besides I have the faster version of the 916. The red one.

 

Yep, same as my X1. I had a top box on mine so it was better. I used to ride it to my YTS job. Neither idea caught on as I recall..

The one at the back says Z1. That's a Kawasuki isn't it? Count the cylinders, if there's more than two you were done.
