1199 Broken Rear Light

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by ijg5, Oct 18, 2014.

  1. any of you guys on 1199's have cracked, smashed rear tail lights. Seems to be the stones from rear wheel hit and crack this easily.

  2. Yep, cracked

  3. Yep me too. Pretty sure it was down to the councils obsession of spending all summer resurfacing the roads round here the low budget way by spraying tar everywhere then dumping chippings on it which flick up at the bikes tail!.

  4. There was a discussion on this on another forum a couple of years ago. Most of these incidents were down to bikes with non OEM tail tidies. Is this the case here?

  5. No mine is the one that came on bike from new. I have red sticky tape on mine now. Yes agree on councils obsession. Haven't priced a new light yet.

  6. Yes I would imagine this is mainly down to non OEM tail tidies, let's face it a boulder wouldn't be able to get past that. No doubt you'll have to sell your genitals to pay for new rear light!.

  7. First dibs on the cock & balls if you decide to replace.

  8. Standard Boulder tail tidy for me.. Agreed haven't priced one yet, but like you guessing sealed unit, just can't buy the glass.

  9. Perhaps a bit of helicopter tape would help?

I have this on my new Tuono as the rear is getting chipped to fred funk by stones flung from the tyre.

  10. I purchased replacement from ebay which has integrated indicators, perfect @£100 ish.

  11. Mine cracked as well suspect stone chipping from newly surfaced roads. Rang dealer suggesting it could be faulty unit they sent me new one under warrantee claim - result
Was a while ago mind don't think would get away with it now Audi are auditing warrantee claims

  12. I had my tail light replaced under warranty, took bike home from new in the van went to look it over and there was starting on the tail light. I ran the bike with standard tail tidy and the new one has a chip, fitted an Evo tech tail tidy and the number plate covers most of the light so no more chips

  13. Have had mine covered in ventureshield as well as the carbon under tail panel. Hopefully that will resist all but the biggest of stones/rocks from damaging the lenses and the panel. Also placed some on the left hand exhaust tip to protect the carbon cap should the chain get too close, the inside of the swingarm (as its painted) and the instrument screen. The bodywork will get the same treatment as well.

  14. Good news I am going to try a warranty claim too. Product not fit for purpose. Will let you know how I get on.
